I can't believe how poorly that movie is doing. The Farewell is still doing good, but if you would have told me that out of all the A24 films that they have this year that Uncut Gems would do the best of them all, at least so far, I don't know that I would have believed it when they have The Farewell, The Lighthouse, and Waves all of which I thought the critics would go for more. Adam is bringing the movie with him.

I still maintain that these folks don't actually count the ballots they receive and that there's a committee or a board or something that puts out these lists. I think they count them but they vote whom they think will get a nod rather than what they like. For some reason the celebs actually show up for the show.

I've read that their "nominations" match the Gold Derby odds list almost perfectly every year. I wouldn't be surprised by that. I know Tom O'Neil started them because of some kind of feud with the Globes. I didn't know that.

Thanks for posting the rest of the nominations Pavan.
I'm glad they finally dropped the Best Comedy and Best Action performance categories.
On one hand, I do think that some performances/films don't get enough recognition, but they usually had scrape the bottom of the barrel to fill up those categories, and sometimes the winners either didn't show up or looked embarrassed.

Judging by those song nods, they did not see Cats.

No Parasite in cinematography??? that's the main aspect of the movie ... Someone should fire these critics! They're self-appointed pundits.

They nominated 7 dudes in Best Actor and Pryce still got left out? The Two Popes is flopping. Missing Egerton too ......hmmmm And it's not like either film will be big Best Picture contenders - like Roma was last year and Marina de Tavira got in.

So... according to them...1917's a better film than Avengers but not the best action film...makes sense.

SAG is Driver's last stand, where I wouldn't rule him out because of his AACTA win. BAFTA is going to Phoenix so he'd be the favorite regardless of whether he wins SAG, but winning SAG would make him a lock.

Credit where credit's due. Their TV nominees are often good and I'm glad Jean Smart and Billy Crudup have won something.

That was a really good speech by Phoenix. Short, sweet, not so rambly, and got the message across clearly.
SAG might still opt for Driver, but I just feel that the narrative is building for Joaquin because his film looks to be potentially over-performing. But SAG is notably the one industry body that snubbed him back in 2012, so who knows?

I was thinking Ledger’s win a decade ago would make them reluctant to award Phoenix for some reason. Not the case at all. In Phoenix’s defense he does give a different performance.
