Which have you seen? And also, cus I'm curious, your fav films from Schlöndorff and Ken Russell? Haven't seen much from Schlöndorff but I enjoy some Ken Russell weirdness: Altered States Devils Lair of the White Worm Crimes of Passion Gothic

Age of Innocence was good, but it never in a million years struck me as something deserving of the Criterion treatment. While we're on the subject though, DDL in Innocence > DDL in Name of the Father am I the only one?

Oh good: a sleep aid by Martin Scorsese, some boring looking experimental film, a 1930 time capsule and some sorta sex movie. I'm super excited.

The covers are astonishing, some of the best of the last few months.
Of the three Russell films I've seen, Women in Love is actually my favourite , love the class dynamics that are on display, plus that famous scene between Reed and Bates. And while The Tin Drum remains the only Schlöndorff film I've seen, I was very impressed by it, it has so many different tones on display, sometimes during the same scenes, it can be very sad and macabre at the same time, it's like a very lucid dream.

For anyone interested, Schlöndorff's debut Young Torless is worth a watch. It's a very disturbing look at power dynamics, dilenquency, abhorrent abuse, and the morally corrupt, at a boarding school in turn of the century Germany. Often considered the first from the German New Wave. Also... was produced and "supervised" by Louis Malle! And..... Might have to see Women in Love because of this shot alone:

The world is in need of a Criterion-quality cut of Visconti's Sandra. Yesterday.

I've seen Dead Man (good movie, atmospheric and interesting) and The Awful Truth (snooooooze). The others don't particularly interest me, but a lot of movies that don't particularly interest me tend to be good, so who knows.

Only seen Virgin Suicides. Not really a fan. They need to bring Marie Antoinette to the collection

Every time I see these, there's always one or two films that I'm surprised wasn't already in the Criterion Collection.

Dead Man is a masterpiece, and Jarmusch's best. I'm very excited to see The Color of Pomegranates, and Parajanov's stuff in general really. I'm moderately interested in The Virgin Suicides... looks neat, but Coppola's stuff has disappointed me in the past. And I'm always up for Bergman

Woah, so they could just TAKE what they want??? I know they're rich and could easily buy the whole closet, but I'm a bit jealous!

Midnight Cowboy is a strange title because it seems to go in and out of fashion every few years as "dated" but it's also era defining, pop culture defining in such a way that it always comes back in to - every few years.
There's not movies like that, that are often running hot and cold relative to modern movies. It's basically made for the Criterion treatment.

Y'all know that I'm obsessed with this film. The conversion is just stunning. The colors are more textured (I never noticed that May's engagement ring was a sapphire before!), Scorsese's directorial flourishes are bolder, and Pfeiffer's curls are even unrulier! It was almost as if I was watching it for the first time... So worth the $$$. Have you picked up your copy?
