Pretty sure the lead is supposed to be a kid. Saw someone refer to the fact that they may be co-leads. Ah ok, didn't know that. Thanks for the info!

Again the casting keeps me being more and more convinced that this is going to be the worst PTA movie ever Can we go back to a few weeks ago, before you and Havok showed up and started spewing your negative shit in every goddamn thread.

In relation to one of the set photos, apparently the kid in the truck with Alana Haim is Philip Seymour Hoffman's son.

I digggg the Safdie casting - especially if this leans comedy - also love how you know Sandler probably linked up PTA & Benny.

"Movie star grapes" bit is a classic. This is such a huge acting opportunity for Benny, what seems to be a great role too. Still love that he was not only codirecting and acting in Good Time but was manning the boom mic whenever he could, even in his bandages wardrobe. Man loves making movies.

Considering how close PTA and PSH were, it doesn't seem implausible and it would be a touching way to honor his legacy. Then again, I'm not sure if he fits the description of the initial casting call.

I read rumors that Alana Haim is playing at least some fictitious version of Barbra Streisand as well. And Benny Safdie! And PSH's son! This movie will be nothing like we imagine, I'm sure. Can we really trust the initial teas on this being centered on a child actor? With rumors of politicians and older film directors, this could be an ensemble, multi-plot movie.

Penn was bandied about in the Eric Roberts role in Inherent Vice, so it's been somewhat expected he'd collaborate with PTA.
I think it's hilarious that this movie is being filled with an ensemble of actors I usually don't care for. I expect Meryl Streep, Natalie Portman, Eddie Redmayne and James Franco to be announced any day now.

Honestly, I don't think he's in the cast. Seems like someone who just passed on set to visit him.

I agree with franklin's assessment, though if Penn is in the cast I feel like that confirms that PTA is trying to out-sleazy his own body of work with this one.

Umm....you guys realise that "name" actors and filmmakers often visit the sets of other filmmakers and actors. It doesn't mean they have anything to do with the movie. Spike Lee was photographed hanging on the set of Spielberg's West Side Story. Pretty sure Lee was not working on the movie.
Unless it's a casting reported by the trades, it's more than likely Penn was just visting one of his BFF's Bradley Cooper, and maybe using that as an opportunity to angle PTA for a role in a future movie. He doesn't even look in period or character. He just looks like Sean Penn on a day out. He's one of the premier networkers in Hollywood (he organised that celebrity Fast Times At Ridgemont High table read last week), and his career is at a low enough point where he has to start making those connections count. I wouldn't be surprised at all though, if Penn get's announced for a role in Cooper's Bernstein.

I couldn’t find a source for this other than Wiki.
This seems about right to me imo. It could still be an awards player, but I think it will be more like The Master than Phantom Thread in terms of nominations. Also makes sense that MGM’s #1 assuming everything goes well is House of Gucci because it should make a lot more money, and at least on paper seems like it’s more of an overall awards contender.
(Speaking of which if you search House of Gucci on Twitter, there’s an actual clip someone filmed of Gaga looking at handbags. I did retweet it and was going to post it here, but then common sense kicked in since they’ll probably go after people that do spread it.)

If it's gunning for that month, we have to figure it's gonna appear at either Cannes or Venice. PTA's won both Director prizes (and Berlin; he's the only person to win all three direction prizes at the trifecta), so the question is, which would be a better rollout for him?

See, I'm one of those people that believe that 2021 is going to run far deeper than 2020 did - far deeper than maybe ANY recent year ever has which I think is a minority POV (?).......... and we will see a great game of chicken in September-December. We've already seen some things pushed to 2022.......so you've got this in September, Respect in August ......The Last Duel in October......... Gucci & King Richard in November......Nightmare Alley & West Side Story in December.
Don't Look Up, Macbeth, C'Mon, C'Mon, The Northman .........new Malick......maybe the new David Russell, French Dispatch.........all with no dates at all yet and there's a lot more like that.........the last 5 months of 2021 will be a bloodbath unless somebody blinks.
I think this is a good date and a deceptive film in awards potential because it has that Hollywood history theme to it - maybe it's his OUATIH .....the 70s version. I know him and QT have a friendly rivalry ......so.....

I think Gucci and the George Miller movie will be MGM's priorities, Soggy Bottom will be in third position. I'm not talking about the quality, but the September release doesn't bode well for its awards season chances.
