I love DiCaprio but, as stephen has pointed out, it seems quite obvious that he's following the DDL and Nicholson path. I say this as a criticism because, honestly, it feels like a deliberate choice to build an aura of a Great, Mythical Actor. In some ways, you can see he's working to build a narrative, and it feels a little cheap. He was thirsty for an Oscar, so he'd chase Eastwood, IƱarritu and etc in-between Scorsese flicks (kind of what Cooper is doing right now). Then he won, and now he's a reclusive actor because it's more helpful if he wants to win a second Oscar. It doesn't feel organic to me when I analyse his career, even if I love his movies and performances. I don't interpret his motivations or career like that I think the kinds of projects he likes have dried up lately, so unless he works just to work, he's not going to find a movie he wants to do every year. If it was just about artificially working less to seem more exclusive, he wouldn't be reading all of these scripts (Babylon, Nightmare Alley, PTA, Don't Look Up, and god knows how many other things).

He already played a closet case in The Departed, though. Was he a closet case in The Departed? I always just thought he was impotent because of the constant stress of living as a mole. I feel like Ripley would be the better example here. I've seen the theory banded about by some. Personally, I don't really buy it, or at least I don't think the film benefits from that reading since pretty much all of it it just as easily fits with performative masculinity. Plus, imo, most of Scorsese's other films have way more homoerotic overtones than The Departed.

Can't stand Cooper as an actor. He comes across as such a cocky try hard and has morphed into looking like Barry Manilow.
I'll still give this film a shot of course cause PTA is directing it.

How do they plan on filming this fall? Doesn't Cooper need to finish Nightmare Alley?

They won't start filming this fall. Cooper has still to finish more than a half of Nightmare Alley, so if he actually does it, the PTA one may actually start around early 2021 (February or even March???).

Cooper is just a supporting character. The whole film centers around a child actor in high school.
I still think this is going to be PTAās worst movie yet.

Can't believe we have no other cast announcements! Let's goo.
So, Cooper ain't playing the politician part, probably like Collider said, a producer or director, spiraling out maybe?

I hope to God there's a scene where Bradley Cooper's character has a full-on breakdown because the studio won't let him stick a giant spider in his movie.

Casting Cooper as a fictionalized Jon Peters sounds like some genius meta casting to me...

PTA back to cokehead mode. I wouldn't count on it. Inherent Vice was a prime opportunity for that.

Benny Safdie (possibly) leading a PTA film? Heavily into it. He impressed the hell out of me in Good Time and Joel Wachs is such an interesting figure.

Again the casting keeps me being more and more convinced that this is going to be the worst PTA movie ever
