Most excited I’ve been for a PTA movie since I found out about him.
This premise seems like something that’s right up my alley.

To MGM: EXCLUSIVE: We hear that Paul Thomas Anderson’s new 1970s San Fernando Valley movie is jumping from Focus Features to MGM. Neither studio would confirm, but we know it’s a deal that’s going down, according to sources. The production is leaving the Universal specialty label that made his Best Picture Oscar-nominated period feature Phantom Thread, which grossed nearly $48M worldwide. CAA Media Finance represents the new film.deadline.com/2020/07/paul-thomas-anderson-1970s-san-fernando-valley-movie-heading-to-mgm-1202987764/

I wonder if he'll go back to his old directing style, not that I prefer it, just curious.

Haddish as the casting agent makes a lot of sense.

I wonder if he'll go back to his old directing style, not that I prefer it, just curious. IMO, it's not really his directing that's changed, it's his writing. It's gotten shaggier, less focused, and more pointless. I don't know how you turn Inherent Vice the book into that movie. It's mind-boggling to me.

I still like my casting on page one here! but hmmmm could be a cast of people PTA has been mentioned with before - RDJ as the politician, Haddish as the agent, and as for the director what a comeback it would be for Nicholson in a dream situation or otherwise, obviously, Pacino....... I'm also very ready for him to bring John C Reilly and Jul Moore back into his casts.....

At the bottom of that article it mentions actors PTA said he'd want to work with in an interview a couple years back: De Niro, Jim Carrey, Charlize, JJL, Michael Shannon ... I could totally see De Niro as the filmmaker and Carrey as the politician, which could be something of a comeback role for him.

De Niro is doing the James Gray. Shannon is doing the O. Russell. Charlize will probably do a random shitty action movie. PTA probably half-assed a script again and is scrambling for collabs.

In terms of what's likely, Carrey as the politician and De Niro as the director, along with Maya or Reese as the agent would be amazing.

I trust PTA would get a great performance if this indeed happens, and hopefully his perf is at least somewhat reminiscent of Cruise in Magnolia but MAN that's a basic choice.

So, Leo passed on this and Nightmare Alley, and Cooper got both. He fits in that politician part, not that I like him much as an actor....

Not sure when Killers of the Flower Moon is starting but I don't know why he keeps missing out on these films. He could have done Nightmare Alley. He doesn't have any real conflicts. Maybe he's going to do the McKay film?

Borys Kit of HollywoodReporter said according to sources Leo was "mulling" both projects. I'd think if he wanted the parts, he'd get them...
