Pretty disappointing opening. I dunno, I thought it would do well in the box office.

Pretty disappointing opening. I dunno, I thought it would do well in the box office. Reviews were certainly better then the last few, but unfortunately presales were rather weak, and the franchise had been worsened so much by diminishing and poorly received sequels. Honestly, I think the movie would have done better if Genisys had never been released, and they had waited like a decade to build-back audiences trust similar to Halloween 2018, but they didn't, so here we are.

Disastrous for Terminator. Also congrats to Paramount for being the first major studio to have all of its film gross less then 100m since 1995 (also with Paramount). At least Harriet had a solid opening weekend, and The Joker had another fantastic drop, thoguh. m.the-numbers.com/daily-box-office-chart1 new Terminator: Dark Fate Paramount Pictures $10,600,000 4,086 $2,594 $10,600,000 1 2 new Harriet Focus Features $4,000,000 2,059 $1,943 $4,000,000 1 3 (1) Joker Warner Bros. $3,840,000 +104% -30% 3,519 $1,091 $289,526,992 29 4 (2) Maleficent: Mistress of Evil Walt Disney $3,135,000 +127% -36% 3,820 $821 $75,284,711 15 5 (3) Zombieland: Double Tap Sony Pictures $2,015,000 +68% -41% 3,337 $604 $53,972,162 15 6 (4) The Addams Family United Artists $1,989,000 +74% -30% 3,607 $551 $78,785,000 22 7 (5) Countdown STX Entertainment $1,600,000 +54% -49% 2,675 $598 $13,516,036 8 8 (6) Black and Blue Sony Pictures $1,130,000 +123% -63% 2,062 $548 $12,522,478 8 9 new Motherless Brooklyn Warner Bros. $1,055,000 1,342 $786 $1,055,000 1 10 (11) Parasite Neon $735,000 +279% +29% 463 $1,587 $5,659,256 22 11 (-) Jojo Rabbit Fox Searchlight $702,000 +895% +106% 256 $2,742 $2,587,236 15 - new Arctic Dogs Entertainment S… $700,000 2,844 $246 $700,000 1

I guess I should have believed in Erivo more instead of dropping her when the reviews weren't very good. I don't think she'll miss now since Harriet is likely to do very well at the box office, and she should be okay for all the precursors. That's great that Parasite appears to have made it in the top 10 too. I don't even know about Arctic Dogs. I guess Jeremy Renner couldn't do any promotion for it for obvious reasons, not that it would have helped. I didn't even see any of the other actors promote it either, again not that it would have helped. I guess the kids are waiting for Disney+ and Frozen 2.

I actually pegged it as opening at #4, but it's beating my expectations. I suppose it really appealing to a demographic that doesn't often go to the movies as much. Nice, though. It certainly improves Erivo's chances at a nomination. Arctic Dogs is one of those cheap looking animated kids movies that some second rate lesser smaller studio (in this case Entertainment Studios), seem to release every four months, that features a known voice-cast, and doesn't really light-up the box office, but is seen as potential counterprogramming (Renner obviously didn't help, though). Looking it up, it was a film that was made in Canada, but funded by seven different countries in total. Sounds about right.

Superb hold for The Joker again, looks like it might do a billion. Shame about Terminator though. It's a legit box office disaster, won't even make as much as Genisys worldwide, and the budget is 185m. What do you get when you try to retool a franchise the public is sick of for the third time in ten years? WHAT YOU FUCKING DESERVE!
