ok from this point on any remaining swaps will take effect as soon as they're requested and that's how I should have done it all along because trying to keep track of when awards are announced vs when a swap is requested is just an added unnecessary headache that no one needs. Until I post a tally, nothing is set in stone and swaps are going to be the first-come-first serve. I'm learning as I go so bear with me! stephen and idioticbunny , if you want me to I can adjust these last three tallies to reflect the Dolemite and Lost My Body swaps. It'd probably mean the difference of 15 points give or take. No worries! I'd say the three you just tallied were from yesterday so I'll count Dolemite toward today onward (so just CAS and CDG I think, well, really only CDG where it get nominated anyway but you know what I mean). Also just wanted to make sure those extra 10 were added for Pugh at Philly.

AACTA International Awards Nominations ( full list) *I was initially unsure which bracket to put these in because we've never done them before (and I guess we can decide next year if counting them is something we want to continue) but I went with the 15/10 bracket because they're not a precursor but they are the Aussie equivalent of the Oscars and BAFTAs. Oh, I think I'll go ahead and drop Alan Alda for Daniel Craig in that case. i'm shocked how little purchase Marriage Story has gotten in the ensemble race so far. 3 huge acting contenders + well respected heavyhitters like Alda and Liotta in the background (and a solid performance from a child actor and Merritt Weaver and Julie Hagerty who were total delights) and still...positively nothing in ensemble categories. It's fuckin weird

It's fuckin weird Agree completely. And I mean three of the film's performances got nominated at SAG too, but somehow it still missed. Surprised also that Knives Out missed too considering it's won a ton of ensemble prizes. But SAG always has some weird picks - like Jamie Foxx for instance which is probably the only place he'll be mentioned.

I'm wondering if next year we should adjust the brackets. The idea of having the precursors + the Oscars yield more points is to counteract the more plentiful regional critics bodies, but if we're counting every critic body under the sun the higher bracket payouts are basically meaningless. Like, the Globes and Oscars and BAFTAs should be able to turn the tide of the leaderboard, but last year Joaquin had Green Book and still finished dead last. If we're going to count 20+ bodies in the 10/5 bracket, I think we might consider increasing the points of the other brackets. Thoughts?

I'm wondering if next year we should adjust the brackets. The idea of having the precursors + the Oscars yield more points is to counteract the more plentiful regional critics bodies, but if we're counting every critic body under the sun the higher bracket payouts are basically meaningless. Like, the Globes and Oscars and BAFTAs should be able to turn the tide of the leaderboard, but last year Joaquin had Green Book and still finished dead last. If we're going to count 20+ bodies in the 10/5 bracket, I think we might consider increasing the points of the other brackets. Thoughts? The way I've combated this before when running the league was by minimizing the amount of critics bodies I count. I've found that throughout the season there's not a giant gap between first and last when I did this. Typically after the first couple critics awards, even in a year like this one that's so hard to predict, a consensus begins to form in terms of nominees and the leaders start to run away with the game much like this team (no judgment here, just kind of stating from experience, I'm aware it's still a relatively new process to run here on MAR whereas I got a lot of trial and error on IMDB before running it separately in another forum). It also helps to minimize the workload for the Captain as well which I think is why a lot of captains tend to not finish a whole awards season because the payload is too big for them (granted I've always enjoyed the work, but these days I'm also too busy to keep up with more than my own team and I'm sure I'm not the only one that can sometimes find it time-consuming). That's just a suggestion as to what's worked for me in the past, that way the larger awards bodies that offer more points actually have an impact. Two years ago I think I had a player with Call Me By Your Name who dominated critics awards, but suffered with the major ones and wound up in like 6th place whereas I had Dunkirk and Blade Runner 2049 which did shit with critics but killed at the guilds and major awards (tech-wise at least) and so I wound up winning the league (I also had DDL and Saoirse, but still actors/actresses are only a small part of it unless you get a killer trio for the sweeps). Looking it up by the way (good thing I keep records!), this was the gap between first and last place that year: 3500 points >>>>>> 2600 points. As a side note, I was the one who upped the points for Oscars from 30/15 to 40/20 maybe the year before I sent the list of rules over to Viced as I felt that only 10/5 more points compared to SAG, etc. for the biggest awards show of the year (save AMARAs ) was too small of a jump, but honestly that was just a trial effort and I might have liked to go even bigger (say 50/25). Just a personal suggestion. Anyway, don't have to run with any of this, just wanted to give you some ideas for next time!
