Don't know what to make of this. I feel like it's more of a classic Schrader character drama but trailer tries so hard to sell it as a Scorsese-ish crime film or something. Not the best music choice and the trailer feels overlong.
Still intrigued though.

Very surprised to say that Tiffany Haddish (whom I normally loathe) looks like the sole good thing about this. Never thought this has much Oscar potential but it looks like such a non-starter and very off. I'll definitely watch it (unless the reviews are brutal) but keeping my expectations low.

it's a Schrader joint so I was expecting something off the beaten path but I'm also not sure what to make of this. Color me intrigued and slightly apprehensive.

Looks solid enough. I dug Schrader's last two films (Dog Eat Dog and First Reformed) so I'll give this a shot as well.

Looks fine to me. Tiffany Haddish didn’t bug me nearly as much as I anticipated.

Some early "non - embargo busting" comments from the much maligned Jeff Wells (don't think he's racist thanx4asking - just doofus-y) - sounds maybe good but not a great I reckon.........and World of Reel's Jordan Ruimy who told y'all more about The Tragedy of Macbeth than anybody else has so.......yeah there's that......hear me Erik Anderson....... whoever the fnck you are Putting this under a spoiler since it gives the "feeling" but not the specifics of the ending away......
Wells: Okay, I’ll say one thing — for the most part The Card Counter is a smart, engaging, carefully measured and intriguingly detailed portrait of another solemn and lonely man…a classic Schrader character with a guarded way of being and living and surviving. But then Schrader promised this chapter-and-verse a year ago.........
Ruimy: Just like Ethan Hawke’s Father Toller in “First Reformed,” Tell (in The Card Counter) sits at a desk, drinks whiskey, and writes in a journal — his penned words narrate the story. Schrader aims for the same morose vibe as in ‘Reformed,’ and the ending, more or less, aims for the same bittersweet spiritual uplift as in that movie.

Anyone who claims that critics give movies with black casts good reviews because they don't want to piss off Twitter is something. All I know is they're definitely a moron. I can see why he had to go the mail order route.

Xcuse me, certainly not "y'all". To those who only read his site - maybe. BUT the info about movies they've actually seen is interesting. It really did feel like the trailer for this movie was trying to sell a different thing. Like, I'm so certain that all those awful digital zooms were inserted in the trailer just to give it a bit of movement and that in actuality the shots are gonna be static just like in "First Reformed". Reveal the truth, Pacinoeyes - are you Ruimy or Jeff Wells??? A relative maybe?
