Looks as pompous and self-serious as I expected. At least Gleeson looks to be doing some good work.

Well I thought this was freakily entertaining but not very good. Billy Ray is solidly capable as a writer, and there are several sharp scenes here, but he gives it a really unneeded framing device, a good amount of laughable dialogue, and the bow-and-scrape to the FBI/Comey gets to be too much, too sentimental. As Mick LaSalle sarcastically says in his review, "It’s all very nice, Jim, that you tried to do the right thing." Despite lacking dare and complexity, it is quickly paced (200min and feels half that), and there are some solid perfs - Jeff Daniels who pretty much nails a simple charm in leadership and later a shocked-robotic panic. And there's the supporting role of Gleeson as Trump - who plays him as all vain defense, practically deaf, switching gears like a slushy radio dial. Rest of the cast differ, some are okay, some are way off....
