really interesting and confrontational scene and a nail-biting showcase for Tar's casual cruelty and performative arrogance. The kid's ignorance contrasts with Tar's academic authoritarianism and by the end they both look like asses. And agree with what she's saying or not (or the way she says it), I love the scene as a depiction of total narcissism. Everything Tar says is correct *to her* and she knows it with all her being, and of course that underscores her stunning lack of self-awareness.
