I saw it last night, and it's very good. I could see it actually being nominated in other categories outside of J.Lo like screenplay, editing, and maybe sound.
I never entertained the idea that she could actually win, but it does seem like the Globes might go for it. I guess she'd be also be someone that the top tier critics might go for since there's not many other options at the moment, and they might want to spread the wealth with Marriage Story. I thought she was good but not particularly worthy of a win, but depending on the other nominees, I don't think I would be that upset about it because she it wouldn't be the worst win ever.
Right now my personal preference is Zhao Shuzhen for The Farewell, but if she gets nominated I'll consider that a win.
Probably Dern ends up sweeping like I have been thinking, and people are just trying to make it interesting by making it J. Lo vs. Dern, and my brain can't help but react to that, lol. Like the Best Actor race, I think it will be Phoenix vs. Driver, but arguments for Pryce are starting to make a lot of sense too, lol.

I could see Lopez getting a nomination, and maybe the film receives a best original screenplay nom as well, especially since it looks to do quite well. I don't see the movie being much of an Oscar player outside of that, though. Lopez's is definitely winning a golden globe though, they absolutely love that kind of performance from a big name. Dern seems like the frontrunner to me, but it's still September. For all we know their could be a stronger contender for best supporting actress that comes out of nowhere to take the wind out of her frontrunner status.

Fantastic numbers for Hustlers. Also while It's second weekend drop is respectable given how well it did Thursday, Deadline is overestimating its Saturday drop. deadline.com/2019/09/hustlers-jennifer-lopez-it-chapter-two-weekend-box-office-1202733682/THUMB RANK FILM DIS. WB must be super happy they managed to sell half the rights to Amazon, so they couldn't have the entire epic bombage of the film sorely rest on their shoulders.

Great for Hustlers. Also It Two's second weekend drop was a lot better then I expected. When I saw it on Friday, the only other person in the theater with me was one old lady. For some reason, I wasn't surprised. What did you think of it? There was definitely a lot of potential, but it kind of just kept getting in its own way. I only read half the book awhile back, but it's so specific in its adaptation, that a lot of the descriptions actually came back to me in full detail as I watched the movie. As you can probably guess, an adaptation that literal isn't always for the best, as it often felt tediously detailed, particularly the Jeffrey Wright scenes where he talks about the work he does, though it was a good call getting an actor as magnetic and soft-spoken as Wright to still carry those scenes. I think what really did it in for me was the structure, with a needlessly back and forth timeline between Fegley and Elgort. In a lot of the Elgort scenes, it's supposed to feel like so much time has passed and there's so much history between he and Kidman, yet we just got large doses of his childhood only minutes ago. There's also the whole thing where the emotional core of his character involves his obsession with the unobtainable girl, yet you could remove that girl from the story entirely and hardly anything would change. With all that said, it's pretty much perfectly cast and a lot of the scenes from his childhood work well enough, as well as being very well shot and giving you a potent feel of each of his new environments. However, it's still feels like a feat in itself that they could have something so well shot still feel so lifeless in the long run. And the last 15 minutes or so are a mess.
