Hyped about Knives Out. Actually, I've been hyped for this for a long time now. Good to hear it's getting some love.

Dolemite Is My Name debuts at 71 on Metacritic. Not good for Murphy's chances. 83, 80, 67, and 60 scores for 4 reviews.

And you claim you're not "pressed" about Nicole Kidman?

And you claim you're not "pressed" about Nicole Kidman? I think she’s still recovering from Luce leaving theatres after 8 collective screenings.

How about we not? Just, you know, not? Doesn't that sound great? Good, glad we agree. Anyways, I'm 260 pages into the novel and I love it so far, but already it stands out as something quite tricky to adapt successfully. It seems the Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close vibes were accurate, then.

After watching these trailers, I never thought Jojo would have such rave reviews.

It's not really getting rave reviews. Not from critics, anyway. Might not even hit 80 on Metacritic if the reactions keep up.

It's not really getting rave reviews. Not from critics, anyway. Might not even hit 80 on Metacritic if the reactions keep up. Yes, this feels like a strange year. I guess A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood can't be ruled out for Best Picture, but it feels sort of too much like Green Book to me which is why I don't see a film like that winning two years in a row. So right now I think we only have The Irishman, Little Women, 1917, Harriet, and I guess Bombshell still left to be seen, and really the only one that I think has a realistic chance to win Best Picture out of those is The Irishman. Yet even then I'm not very confident that it will actually win Best Picture since the front-runner that far out rarely wins. Is it really going to be Once Upon a Time in Hollywood vs. Marriage Story? The latter seems too small, but so far it's not divisive and has a high MC/RT score whereas it seems like most of other contenders will be too divisive or won't have the critics boosting them. I know Green Book didn't need critics, but that was such a crowdpleaser that was tailor made for baby boomers, and was seen as being "important". Plus, Roma was also nominated for Best Foreign Language Film which was one of the things that made it tough for it to win Best Picture too. I think OUATIH ends up winning because I think it's about the industry, and it seems to have more of a message than Marriage Story does. Plus, I've seen people bring up Crash winning, and then AMPAS swerving hard the other way, so I feel like we'll see that again after Green Book's win. So OUATIH can be like No Country for Old Men in that they both didn't win anything at Cannes, but won Best Picture in the end. Plus, Tarantino is a veteran like the Coens who has been previously awarded for screenplay but not for Best Picture or Directing yet. I can also see Brad Pitt winning Supporting Actor; although I don't see him sweeping like Javier Bardem did, but with the televised awards he'll likely sweep. Marriage Story probably wins Supporting Actress and Original Screenplay as consolation prizes; although, Actress and Actor are still in play, albeit I think Driver will just have to settle for winning more critics prizes overall but end up losing once the televised awards start.

Usually there's this thing with Rock bands where if they are described as "gorgeous" or "beautiful" or "lush" I want to fncking puke .........well same thing when my satires are called "magical" and "heartfelt" and "wondrous".......maybe it is.....eventually I'll see JoJo Rabbit but um there's only so much time in life.....somebody better come up with some better words because my BS detector is going crazy right about now.

The first reviews I read about Jojo are very promising. I know we have to wait and see. Personally I didn't get good vibes from the trailers.
As for OUATIH, his biggest chances in winning BP is exactly because of that: It's a movie about Hollywood.

JoJo Rabbit is being destroyed by the critics.
I wonder what wins the People's Choice Award? Marriage Story? A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood? Parasite? Knives Out?

I don't quite understand all the Kidman-Watts battles on here - it must go back to IMDB days I guess that I was oblivious to - but I will say that Nicole Kidman, who I really do like and is one of her generations best actresses - "one of her generation" being the key words - not "greatest Actress from Australia", not "can she challenge Streep" sometimes wears awfully thin imo. I have a whole thread on here where it's her PR people flooding social media and news outlets and getting stories planted that go viral and into syndicated outlets that are just the grossest bullsh it I've ever seen from a celebrity at her level. She still does it, as recently as last week and every week etc. I haven't seen BLL 2 - I hear she's great there and that is awesome I want to see it and maybe Bombshell will be a winner too - I want to see great work from anyone - but it's hard not to want to see her bomb out sometimes because she's so f'n needy and thirsty and has such a horrid machine of spin and PR. Not kicking her when she's down, heck my favorite actor starred in his worst film ever in 2018 - think about the horror of that statement.........and he deserves it a bit too - take sh it roles and sh it happens. .............but when everything at Toronto has people raving about it, it's kind of hard not to smile a little bit about this solemn film striking out there.

The Playlist review of The Goldfinch is absolutely brutal. The first sentence reads "At the risk of putting too fine a point on it,Ansel Elgort cannot really act".

Well, guess that's a classic example of why initial Twitter reactions shouldn't be taken as a good indicator of critical response. Still, Jojo feels like something that maybe divides critics and audiences ultimately ... there's clearly people who love it and this is something that's gonna have a fanbase regardless.
