BAFTA was so much more generous with her than AMPAS... Three nominations from BAFTA compared to one nomination (for Mogambo) from AMPAS. Perhaps an interesting bit of trivia for your other thread, pacinoyes . Anyway, I love all three of these performances - they more than proved that she was more than just a beautiful face. But my favorite is definitely her earthy, sardonic star turn in The Night of the Iguana. A very haunting Helmut Newton portrait in her later years...

Mogambo (1953)... A vibrant and hilarious star-turn and her sole Oscar nomination...

only seen Beach yet but she's wonderful in it and probably the best on that cast. Acted circles around Gregory Peck. Also loved Perkins in that movie, but I always love Perkins.

She's hilarious in The Night of the Iguana - Kerr/Gardner are an amazing, unlikely pair

I wanted to note that Gardner hated seeing herself onscreen and never felt that she had acting talent, but she was quite happy with her work in Bhowani Junction and felt that this was her personal best.

“Ava was a gem. She was marvelously punctual and never complained even when it was clear the poor darling was exhausted. She was wonderful in the part.” - George Cukor, on Gardner in Bhowani Junction (pictured below directing her on the set) This is my choice for her best-ever performance.
