I'll just say this one thing because I don't want to cause a big argument or anything. I don't like when people put terms like film fans in quotation marks, as if the only way you can call yourself a true film fan is if you watch two obscure foreign films a week or some shit. A fan of film is a fan of film, plain and simple, it doesn't matter what kind of films they like/watch. Just be happy that there are so many people who love the world of cinema.

I love when golden era movie stars said stuff like "I really liked working on that picture." "Yes, that was a good picture, wasn't it?" Makes me happy.

After watching a clip of Little Miss Sunshine this morning, I realized I basically have the same pair of glasses as Olive.

Will there be an upsurge in memoirs next year? All these older stars, before too busy to indulge themselves, might be getting an earful from their agents during quarantine: "Well, now's the time..."
Does honey really never go bad? Or is that a lie....
Whatever happened to that amazing IMDb feature where you can plug in any two people and it'd show you if they ever worked together. I miss it!!!!

It's nuts how sterilized and boring the taste of so many "film fans" I run into is. It's a subjective thing at the end of the day, but damn, there's a lot more to the medium than the stuff up for Oscars or made by popular, newer American directors. I don't really care about those guys. I can think of a couple of offenders that are worse. But I've ranted about them before already.

Why can't we go back to 1997? I miss the 90s so much I need a LeAnn Rimes intro for my nostalgia trip.

How do people write such long essays over any topic? I was struggling to write one paragraph adequately.... How do they write so succinctly, so eloquently? When I speak English out loud which I've written (it's not my first language) I sound like a parrot 😶 DeepArcher JangoB Lubezki Zeb31 how do you guys do it????

When I speak English out loud which I've written (it's not my first language) I sound like a parrot 😶 DeepArcher JangoB Lubezki Zeb31 how do you guys do it???? First off, thanks for your kind words! The questions are a bit tough to really dissect though...I genuinely feel that for me this can be pretty easily explained as just a flow of thoughts which I just need to structure if I want to present them in written form. I suppose it's something that varies from one person to another - some people are quite wordy/talkative, others are a bit more reserved. I know that in real life I can go on for quite some time about a topic I feel passion for, and it's the same when it comes to writing. It probably sounds like a paradox but I find writing in English mush easier than in my native Russian. My university years are to 'blame' for that - we were studying English and my absolute favorite professor was quite firm about us not only practicing (speaking out loud, reading, watching everything in English) but training ourselves to think in English so that the process of translating our thoughts from one language to another wouldn't be necessary. I'm afraid that her advice stuck a bit too closely to me because I often find myself having to translate my thoughts from English to Russian The easy answer to your question is more reading and practicing. And it's very important to truly feel attached to one's own feelings when it comes to doing write-ups on movies and such. How did a movie make you feel, what struck you the most about it, why do you think it did that, how does it compare to other viewing experiences you've had? One great thing about writing is that there is no right or wrong way to do it. One's review of a movie can be a two-page essay about its sound design, for instance - why the heck not? The important thing is feeling some kind of passion for what you're writing about. And overcoming laziness is also vital. At least for me

I can’t speak to learning to write in a second language, since I haven’t had to experience that, but I know a great deal of other users have so I’ll let them tell you about. As far as writing longer-form writing goes, I can more or less repeat what I said to Micah the other day, that the only way to get better at writing is through writing. You could always start by imitating what other people have written so that you have some sort of template, and then keeping doing it again and again until writing just becomes an innate process. Of course I have been practicing writing nearly my entire life so it’s not like getting better as a writer could ever happen overnight or anything. But really the only thing to do is just keep trying and keep writing more and more and eventually it’ll just come naturally.

Does anyone else experience weird moments of memory association in your daily life where random things come to mind while you're doing boring tasks because you once were thinking about that thing while doing that task at some point... even though the two are not related at all? Like every time I do the dishes, I find myself thinking about this specific video game that I played as a kid because I guess I was thinking about that game once while doing the dishes at some point, so now the two things are inextricably linked in my head. And whenever I make a sandwich for lunch and put spinach on it, this old professor from college always comes to mind for the same reason. The act of taking spinach out of the bag conjures up memories of this professor for no other reason than the fact that I once thought about him while taking spinach out of a bag to make a sandwich. And in the recent past, I must have thought about the film La maman et la putain while putting on deodorant because now the act of putting on deodorant somehow brings that film to mind... This is some next-level Proustian shit...
