Pivoting from Swift.... Does anyone else think Miley Cyrus became a lot more, um, interesting... post- foam finger (Aug '13)? Even musically, covering The Replacements, etc. And who remembers when the inventor of the foam finger with a total straight face made the most ridiculous comment (he actually said this).... "She took an honorable icon that is seen in sporting venues everywhere and degraded it," Chmelar said. "Fortunately, the foam finger has been around long enough that it will survive this incident. As for Miley Cyrus, let's hope she can outlive this event and also survive." Oh she had something weirdly and wrongly and Help! call my therapist appealing about her even as far back as this song which I don't know when this was but is pretty far back and is her masterwork (um) - a power pop sorta classic AND it applies to the movies - I can hear The Regrettes actually steal from this song all the time - just not so saccharine. It's a fine line - just lose the slick production and this is quite cool, but I'm crazy is that it? Is that what you're saying? Fnck you all and my therapist too!!! I'd rather listen to this song on repeat than any number of Pitchfork approved screeching man-haters (Sheer Mag gets a 7.8 today, yeah right) or whatever stripper/pole dancer is rapping this week. Lose the synths and fake drums, but keep the lyrics and vocals and it's pop rocks, Pepsi and pizza time at casa de pacinoyes.........

pacinoyes Singing about movies but she goes ahead and does TV!! No but really, pretty good song. Less frills the better with her definitely - I like her live "backyard" sessions stuff or when she pops up on SNL or something. Actually, her cover of Look What They've Done to My Song is a great one for her - "Look what they've done to my brain Yeah, they picked it like a chicken bone And they think I'm half insane, Ma..." Love her voice - slightly Southern slightly punk-harsh, or pop-fun playful or beautifully controlled - like her Silent Night in the Sofia Coppola special. As for acting - well, there's room for improvement, but I at least like her decision to accept and do a Woody Allen project and Black Mirror....

Fingernails and toenails are fucking weird. ...and yes, Swift definitely got a boob job. She's definitely been working out a lot lately too cuz now she actually has an ass. Same thing happened to Emma Stone thanks to La La Land and Battles of the Sexes. This led to me google image searching "Emma Stone butt" which is one of the best decisions I've made today.

But as a woman, I always kind of liked her.

I'm really shocked that Luck retired. I really wanted him around for the sake of the NFL, but I understand if he feels like he's 30, financially stable, and time to move on due to injury pains and more need for his personal life.
Reminds me of when Barry Sanders retired out of nowhere I think in the early 00s?
Carson Wentz on the other hand I wouldn't mind taking the same path as Luck because I hate the Iggies and if his injuries don't kill him he might make it to 30 actually alive.

Anybody ever go through ebbs and flows where you don’t feel like watching any movies? Like, every once in a while, it feels like a chore to sit through them? I still love them, but I just don’t have any desire to sit through them at the time. And while I love A-List and wouldn’t give it up for anything, I feel like that’s been compounding it lately, and I’ve even started writing a lot less.
Mainly, I chalk it up to focusing on my personal life, but also that I want to try my *other* hobbies. Reading, shows, music, and especially gaming (I’ve been on a real Zelda binge recently). Sometimes I just need some variety, because if I try too hard and too long to force myself into something, it just feels tiring instead of fulfilling.
This has been a really weird tangent, I know, but yeah. Sometimes that happens. What do you do when your passions temporarily burn out?

I actually kind of feel like that right now but I think it might just be because I recently came back from a Film Festival.

Happens all the time with movies/TV for me... which is why I often revisit the same dozen or so movies/shows over and over and over again. Making matters worse is when I finally get around to watching something new/first time, lately they've all been garbage (I'm looking at you, A Simple Favor!).

I'll have a week or two out of probably every ten weeks, during which I won't watch a single new movie. It's a good thing anyway, as you say yourself, other hobbies matter too, and having an actual personal life or outdoors life is critical people.

The R.E.M. song, "Driver 8" just came on the radio and it reminded me of a funny story.
Fifteen years ago I think, we used to have this paddleboat pond in my hometown and I had this 'genius' idea of taking "Driver 8" and re-making it as "Boat 8" with a video of me and my friends renting a paddleboat and the song is like, "Boat 8, take a break, you've been out there way too long!" and we just keep on paddling like rebels. (It was a really small circular pond with a fountain in the middle.)
Anyway, no one ever liked my idea and so it never got made. Like most of my shitty ideas. Scenes from my memories.

I miss Game Of Thrones and I miss watching Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's beautiful face as Jaime. Hope he does something exciting soon.

Kind of a weird question, but-
Do any of you guys sometimes get random urges to go back and rewatch certain films even though you saw them not too long ago, specifically because you feel that you're forgetting/have forgotten about them? This is 100% my OCD talking, but I sometimes get paranoid that I'm missing bits and pieces from movies that I saw like last year, and that sitting through them didn't actually count as watching them for real if I didn't retain a totally arbitrary level of information.
This usually happens to classic titles that are regarded as all-time greats, but then when I cave in and rewatch them to placate that paranoia I realize that I didn't actually forget anything, and everything's still relatively fresh in my memory. Yet give it enough time and it happens again to some other film.
I don't get that all the time, but it's pretty exhausting when I do.

Yet give it enough time and it happens again to some other film. I don't get that all the time, but it's pretty exhausting when I do. Yeah. I used to consume a lot of films over very short periods of time, so there are quite a few classic films that I watched a long time ago and don't have a very good memory of because I didn't really give myself much of an opportunity to absorb them properly. Now I try and make sure I devote a reasonable amount of mental energy to actually thinking about each film I watch after I see it so I can minimize the frustration of barely being able to recall a film a month later. I'm particularly bad at remembering details of plots, but I find that if I try and mentally archive how I think a film develops certain themes in a unique way, that's really what is important to me, and my memory of more incidental stuff sometimes falls out of that. But yeah, I still occasionally feel like I've forgotten what happened in a film I watched recently.

Yet give it enough time and it happens again to some other film. I don't get that all the time, but it's pretty exhausting when I do. I get this feeling sometimes and it's actually depressing (can't tell you how many classics I've *technically* seen that I'll have to watch again because I didn't give them my 100% focus). I've watched hundreds of movies over the last few years and I've probably forgotten most of them, even the ones I loved. So I can tell someone I loved Room at the Top because I remember loving it, but I can't recall the experience of watching it much at all. And that was just earlier this year. Keeping lineups helps a bit. Just so I can keep track of the individual elements I know I loved at the time, like the cinematography or score or a performance. Otherwise it'd just be an endless abyss. Forcing myself to write up my thoughts while the movie's fresh on my mind also helps, because it forces me to try to process the experience and sit with it a while instead of just moving on from it. I have better recall generally of films I reviewed four years ago than most films I watched four months ago and didn't review.
