I've realized this board is generally very positive toward's HBO's Chernobyl; yet I didn't see a mention of him so here I give a shout out to Paul Ritter (and his Anatoly Dyatlov) who passed away some months ago. This depiction may not be very factual in regards to the real engineer (some videos of him are up across Youtube) but what affected me about his work was that how "recognizable" he appeared every time he showed up; specially if one is familiar with living in an oppressive regime (or has experience working in a bureaucratic workspace)... I've seen people like this in Iran, at a time on a daily basis. His freak outs might be what the Internet will remember his character for, but he shined best when sitting dead silent in a room occupied with cunning, devastated and louder higher ups, letting things around him unfold without his interruption; planning in his head how to adapt himself to the latest thing being said. They come up with a promise of promotion for his motivation in the final episode but that sense of exhaustion which he carries with himself all the time goes deeper for a man of his condition. It has become part of him. He doesn't feel regret or care for what has happened or has hidden those concerns under layers of indifference and self-defense...and Ritter portrayed all that with a relatively short screen time. He probably gave the best performance of that show for me. He was 54 and pass his youth, but we won't know what opportunities would've opened up to him after the success of the beloved mini-series.

Inger Stevens cheated death three times before her suicide at the age of 35 in 1970. Truly sad, her career was short though interesting. Wish she had gotten better support.

Have we mentioned the marvelous Dorothy Dandridge who died unexpectedly in 1965 at the age of 42...... I read that she signed a two-picture contract a day before she died, one of which to costar in a Western about Johnny Ringo (could that be the one made by Sergio Corbucci?). Here's a two min "soundie" aka the original music video, where she is very immediately lovely. (Soundies are technically short films? Anyway it was posterless so Ugolin fixed up a nice lil something...)

Gwen Welles passed at the age of 42 from cancer. She worked in two Altman projects though slowly faded away. I wish she got better roles.
