That's because $$$. No commercials in soccer. It'll never become a popular televised sport because the only advertising you can do is plastering a sponsor on the clock or something of that sort. Football, baseball, basketball -- they all have lots of opportunities to pause and get precious advertising revenue. No, it's because far fewer people watch. If people were watching they'd figure out how to monetize it. Looked it up and the MLS Cup averaged 300k viewers and the World Series and NBA Finals averaged 15 million each and the NFL is obviously even bigger than that. It's not remotely close. Soccer gets enormous TV ratings in Europe and Latin America, like the NFL here and even bigger for a major event like the World Cup, so there's nothing intrinsically wrong with it as a TV sport. Americans are just not interested for the most part. I was not aware of that much of a difference in viewership. My bad. I still hold by the sport being the most popular thing on the local level by a significant margin, though.

That's been the case since like the 70's/80's but it's never translated into Americans wanting to watch soccer on TV for whatever reason.

Because it’s boring AF to watch.
