The dude shot over an hour in a month?
Well kudos to him... though part of me is just thinking, "the sooner I get this done, the sooner I can get back to Prometheus!"

Ridley is notoriously fast and almost always brings his films in under budget. I think he's the perfect fusion of artist and businessman.

I was hoping to hear news like this after that miracle job he pulled on All the Money in the World. This is probably my most anticipated of the year.

I was wondering how they were going to actually get it done for this year, so I'm not surprised it was pushed. I was hoping though that completing it so fast was going to be Ridley Scott's narrative though in a weak year, assuming that there's still going to be an Oscars that's not combined with 2021 or something.

I get the impression and idea that the awards shows will be pushed further in general, thus giving The Last Duel a chance to break through. The film industry is in free-fall right now. Of course I have little faith about the film chances to begin with, especially if Scott's previous big epic Exodus: Gods & Kings is anything to go by. I do hope it surprises, though.

I definitely agree about it probably being of questionable quality given Scott’s very inconsistent filmography, but I’m still hoping it surprises in a good way. Also hoping that at the very least Scott was able to handle the material with sensitivity since I think the discourse could be very ugly if not with Damon and Affleck already having controversy around them, and Driver so far avoiding that but having worked with Terry Richardson, Terry Gilliam, etc., it seems inevitable that it’ll become an issue for him at some point in his career.

I assume Scott will handle the rough material and subject matter well (I remember reading-up about it, and yeah, it's tricky), but in a very mainstream sort of way. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the movie gets fairly graphic at points, though.

Should be noted this is Dariusz Wolski saying this, as at first blush I thought it was Ridley.

Of course I don’t how true these tweets are, but it fits with the story. I already knew it’s not going to be for everyone, but I do hope that the rape scenes are filmed in a way that fit the movie and don’t seem gratuitous or don’t make the film impossible to sit through. Here’s what someone said earlier about it when they had the first test screenings, and the rape didn’t bother them. Then another recent person who chimed it who got to see it early and liked it.

I'm surprised they just didn't go all The Duelists and let the actors use their natural accents.

I'm surprised they just didn't go all The Duelists and let the actors use their natural accents. It would have made more sense. Now I’m all worried again about how this and HoG are going to turn out. If they’re good/great stories, I don’t think the accent thing will be a problem for most people, but if not I could see a lot of mocking memes in their future.

Hopefully soon means next week. I’m just really curious how it looks. I’ll probably go see it if it’s a mess, but from some of what the cast and crew have said it doesn’t feel like it will be. Obviously they’re going to be biased, but when projects are really bad, you can often get a sense of that by what the cast and crew says.

Obviously they’re going to be biased, but when projects are really bad, you can often get a sense of that by what the cast and crew says. I mean, the thing is, Ridley Scott knows how to make historical epics. Even things like Exodus: Gods and Kings are still spectacles in a grand sense, and you know that the film is going to look good if nothing else. But I trust that they knew going into it how this sort of story might read in 2021, and it seems they're taking the proper measures to make sure that there is a female perspective on the story so that she isn't simply treated as a revenge-for-rape impetus. And while some of the blurry set pictures of the hairstyles looked silly, I have hope that they'll look better in context. But I think we can all expect it to be technically strong, at the very least. Ridley doesn't know how to do it otherwise.

"Soon" can mean anything. From "next week" to "two months from now".
