Because it got moved up?? Yeah, I'm wondering if a platform release will kill the wom so they decided to release it wide to recoup as much as they could. Leo is no where to be found in the credits so this will need all the help it can get.

expected based on what's been reported with test screenings and what's been said about the ambitious script
so a double feature of this and avatar 2 during christmas would take over 6 hours lol

On the Little Gold Men podcast, they mention that apparently the costume designer was forbidden to look at flapper dresses of the era... that and the tweet below seem to suggest that Chazelle went for a deliberately modernized look for the film in general... which I guess is why Margot Robbie's hair looks like 80s beachy waves.

A lot of people on AW are being very uptight about that but I really don't get what's the problem here. Plenty of filmmakers have put stylized/modernized touches on period stuff before and with this movie's main description being "The Great Gatsby on steroids" it was always pretty clear to me that it wasn't gonna be too period-strict.

I mentioned this in another reply a page back, but I don't really have a problem with modernized touches on period stuff in principle... the issue is when the stylization obscures the intended time period to the point that it's unrecognizable. I saw someone bring up Emma (2020) as an example of a movie that uses a modernized aesthetic that still manages to look period appropriate.

I think it is okay as long as the modernization looks reasonable. For example, there was a certain way women wore their hair okay so if Margot is going to be a hot mess in this movie then okay, I can understand that her hair won't look on point and will be messy but she should not have hair from another time period.

The movie may end up dividing the voters' opinions but despite that I think we may be looking at something that can easily win 3-4 technical awards. From the looks of it Production & Costume Design, Cinematography and Score all seem extremely plausible.

I'm gonna try to be openminded. At the very least you know it's going to have some great elements (score sounds fun, big sets, colorful costumes), but yeah this looks like like an expensive, chaotic meandering mess. A coked-out OUATIH meets a luded-up WoW. I think it'll do pretty well and have a passionate following but it looks like it's Trying. So. Hard.
Robbie doesn't look good at all. This looks a couple steps away from Harley Quinn.

I liked the previous trailer better. This new one just does not do it for me. I agree with Tommen’s sentiment about this trying too hard but as has been pointed out earlier in the thread, this is a 3hr movie being condensed to a 3min trailer so maybe the final product won’t come off as try hard like the trailers
Or it’ll just be worse but in Chazelle I trust

Paramount fucked up big time in marketing and advertising this movie, some heads in that department and beyond should go down.
Why not give it The Revenant treatment, limited on Christmas and wide on mid January?? Movies like this always gamble on award season. They just release them during the holidays to qualify for the awards. Ex: LaLa Land barely made 14 million 2 months after its wide release then made 470 million after award season.
Especially during Avatar's second weekend it's suicidal to do otherwise
