so Wolf of Wall Street meets Day of the Locust meets... Hail Caesar? I'll believe that Chazelle can do satire when I see it. This looks like a hot, sweaty, sloppy, mascara-smeared mess.

Outside of the '30s setting this doesn't look similar to Amsterdam in the slightest ... Lol.

I’m a Chazelle skeptical but this looks more farcical than I ever thought... I’m intrigued.
And what’s with Robbie and her casting in two 30s setting movies. I like her a lot but, going a bit basic here, she looks like someone who knows what an iphone is.

Oh No! (Wet Leg reference) Similar reaction I had in 2004 after just having watched the Elizabethtown trailer. Trailer is way underwhelming, I actually think the Don't Worry Darling trailer looks better.

You just said it yourself though...both trailers have Margot Robbie in a central role and are set in the 30's. Those two things alone are enough to draw parallels to Amsterdam.Of course it's not the exact same thing, but the tonal energy of both trailers are not a million miles apart imho. High energy, comedic vibes with a vague looking plot. Each film also has a major black male character that gets focused on in both trailers ( John David Washington in Amsterdam= Jovan Adepo in Babylon) in a film where everyone else is mostly white .

This looks like a mess, and not the fun kind.

Amsterdam found dead in a ditch. You know, both of these movies can co-exist. I don’t see any reason that this should make me more excited than- *sees Margot Robbie about to fight a snake* Wow, that’s fast!

This is supposed to be set in the 1920s? It feels way too modern all around - the costumes, the makeup, the dialogue, the body language...

Anachronistic? Even so, if it fits with t the tone (and I’m probably one of the few here unironically excited for it), I’ll be able to look past it fine. Hell, I was one of the few adamant defenders of Luhrmann’s Gatsby.

I guess I don't have a problem with it in principle, but to me the stylization of "modernizing" the era should be more distinct... instead it just looks like nondescript pageantry imo.

The fuck did I just watch? I have no idea what to make of this. So much cocaine. I’ve seen the word “chaotic” tossed around and that sounds about right. There’s some stuff that could work out great, there’s stuff that could end up horribly. Some of the dialogue in that trailer… Only real highlight for me was Brad Pitt’s delivery of “fuck yeah” at the end. Yup, think he’s gonna be great in this at least

Like this screenshot of Robbie's character acting in a 1920s film looks so off, I have to wonder if it might be intentional on Chazelle's part...

that trailer was awful
while saying that, chazelle is 3/3 and has only gotten better and better with each movie. i'd rather go off of his track record than a 2 minute trailer that was edited horribly.

It's a $110 million film. It shouldn't be a surprise the trailer is playing up the debauchery and comedy, that's the stuff to get people in the door.

I love filmmakers who really care about how they shoot their stuff. The visuals are stunning - the colors, the tones, the sheer juiciness of the images.
