I'm not as big a Fincher fan as most on this board, but I'll be the first to admit this looks like a FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKIN masterpiece.

I think the Academy is going to eat this up.

Love the look, reminds me of Ed Wood.

Wow, this surpassed my (fairly high) expectations in every way. I expected this to be a lot more glossy so I love the sound design, cinematography, everything. Cannot wait.

Yeah, this looks like a BP winner.
And man, Fincher's films always have such great trailers.

I know there were some people concerned that the film will attempt to downplay Welles's role in writing Kane's screenplay... but I wonder if this will be at all like The Social Network, which adopted the Rashomon-style, multi-perspective approach that doesn't really present anything as the "truth."
I have to admit, I wasn't super excited by the idea of this project when it was first announced, but now I think a film about the creative process feels very appropriate for Fincher considering how there's an element of obsessiveness that permeates all his best films.

Fincher is back and he’s coming for that Oscar he should’ve won a decade ago!

I'm still skeptical about the story and if it's worth telling, but boy, that trailer really looks so gorgeous. My expectations have rised very high.

The sound work in the trailer is amazing. I really hope that the whole movie will sound like this.

Honestly that’s how I felt about The Social Network when I first heard about it and it’s one of my favorite movies now. It can happen. And it's quite a good comparison. Indeed I thought similiar about the premise of The Social Network and it turned out I like it (though that was not unexpected as well given my track record with Fincher before). But I don't love it. Especially when compared on this forum. It doesn't even make my Top 50 of the decade. I guess Mank will fell in the same territory for me, but that cinematography definitely has me looking forward to it.

And another (better) one: Oh, how I hope that the sound design will be done in THIS manner in the actual film. It was confirmed a couple weeks ago that the film will indeed play in MONO so yay!

This movie is a masterpiece of lighting and light/shadow as a thematic strand :
Look at how many ways light and shadow are played off in this 2 minute trailer - camera lights, mirrored lights, spotlights, candlelight, sun through clouds, lights from birthday cakes, light coming through windows, street lamps etc. - which is obviously a theme (ie what he writes "illuminates" Hearst, the "shadows" his demons, threats towards him - the movie camera illuminates/obscures "truth").
That was awe-inspiring tbh....

That was awe-inspiring tbh.... I love all that stuff too but to be fair I think that's a fairly common visual tool used in expressively shot B&W movies, particularly classics. It's just that there're fewer and fewer movies like that these days! But it sure is good to see that it's done in this way here. I'm loving the fact that Fincher is gonna be playing with shadows and light a lot on this. I'm scared that in this digital age strong stylistic and thematic use of light is gonna become a bit of a lost art.

I'm gonna be honest, that trailer did nothing for me, and I love Fincher.
It looks visually stunning, but the plot didn't seem interesting at all to me, and Oldman looked kind of underwhelming.

Looks like we are in for a rich audio-visual experience. If the script is any good Fincher will have a new masterpiece in his oeuvre.

I can't be the only one who thinks these trailers look like, I don't know, a gimmicky Capital One commercial or some shit.
