Godfather III updated edition version Deadline article update also: Paramount announced on Thursday that a new edit and restoration of Coppola’s final Godfather film, rechristened Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone, will hit theaters this December, with a home video release to follow. The new version of the film “achieves director-screenwriter Coppola and screenwriter [Mario] Puzo’s original vision for the finale, which has been meticulously restored for the finest presentation of the Corleone saga’s last chapter,” Paramount said in a news release. If everyone’s roles are intact, the movie stars Al Pacino, Diane Keaton, Talia Shire, Andy García, Eli Wallach, Joe Mantegna, Bridget Fonda, George Hamilton, and a young Sofia Coppola. “Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone i s an acknowledgement of Mario’s and my preferred title and our original intentions for what became The Godfather: Part III,” Coppola said in a statement. “For this version of the finale, I created a new beginning and ending, and rearranged some scenes, shots, and music cues. With these changes and the restored footage and sound, to me, it is a more appropriate conclusion to The Godfather and The Godfather: Part II and I’m thankful to Jim Gianopulos and Paramount for allowing me to revisit it.” deadline.com/2020/09/francis-coppola-godfather-part-iii-recut-limited-december-theatrical-release-1234570031/

A new ending is not one of them. At one point Coppola said he had a scene with Michael & Kay after the "opera steps scene" (I think that's what he said?) so I'm guessing maybe it's added now and the "falls off the chair" last scene is cut.....we'll find out when we all see it in December. Oh fnck all y'all, I'm going to the theater dammit this is my Tenet!

Yeah, the ending is fine as it is. The first scenes were ok. So, he changed nothing else??

Meh, I would be more interested about new updates about Megalopolis rather than this.

the ideal version of Godfather Part III is no Godfather Part III Or one that ends with Pacino in bed with Suzanne Pleshette, talking about the horrible dream he had, and that maybe he should just forgive Fredo after all.

the ideal version of Godfather Part III is no Godfather Part III Brutal, but true. Godfather Part III is such a slog. Even the performances of the original cast who they paid enough to show up felt rote. Shout out to Robert Duvall who rightly sensed this was a cash grab, and wasn't willing to come back unless he got paid a king's ransom. You know this film was bullshit when they replaced Duvall with a lightweight like George Hamilton. The first two films are perfect. I usually pretend the series ended on Part II.

It's not remotely as good as the first two, but it's a hell of a lot better than The Irishman.

Interesting video - I've posted this guy before - Daisuke Beppu - I kind of love him and if you don't know him check him out, he loves movies - he's a fan so we can see his thoughts when this comes out - the Godfather 3 "Coda".
We should be hearing very soon about its run time and which theaters will show it in the US and also a new poster I would think soon too. I wonder if the runtime will be significantly cut now the more I think about it - this movie went from 161 minutes theatrical to 170 Director's cut (which was better/smoother) - but with a "Coda" - in theory - you could chop out a whole lot of the middle stuff which is to me the big weakness of the movie.
Also I went back and listened to the "Coda" music from Nino Rota which is a sad version of the famous theme and may be used exclusively now - it's quite beautiful ......I wonder if the movie may now not only be significantly shorter - closer to 2 hours instead of 3 maybe (?) - with just this sad music as the "score" exclusively.

I still will never forgive Coppola for ruining one of the greatest character exits of all time with his Apocalypse Now Redux... therefore, I have no faith in this newfound exit as well.

He should use The Irishman-CGI to re-shoot Sofia Coppola's scenes with Winona Ryder as planned. Or maybe build a time machine and just rewrite the screenplay as a whole?

Well, not sure if this is accurate but the Wiki page lists a runtime of 143 minutes .......which is 18 minutes less than theatrical and 27 less than the existing DVD cut which is not even close to the size of I and II.......I'm seriously wondering if Bridget Fonda and George Hamilton and Michael's son maybe characters that were very peripheral in the 3rd movie - will either be cut out entirely or now almost down to nothing.....(except his son stays in the opera obviously).........or if anybody increases like John Savage who most people don't even realize is IN Part III Very fun to speculate on this film........to me at least .......can't wait for this.......

It's not remotely as good as the first two, but it's a hell of a lot better than The Irishman. You should be hospitalized. Sounds like dementia. 🙏 IRISHMAN is a hell of a lot closer to the original 2 classic films quality-wise than the lame 3rd. Not saying it's as good as them, but it's a MASTERPIECE. All three are all-time Top 50 for me.

Looks like December 4th is the "in theaters" date - AMC has it .......and possibly an indie theater near me also.......and yeah if I can I'll see it in theaters because I already lived through the Black Plague .........and my only underlying condition is boredom from f'n watching movies at home. Also seems to be booked outside US too (Australia etc) 2 HR 38 MIN DEC 4, 2020 DRAMASYNOPSIS: Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of The Godfather: Part III, director/screenwriter Francis Ford Coppola brings a definitive new edit and restoration of the final film in his epic Godfather trilogy—Mario Puzo’s THE GODFATHER, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone. Michael Corleone (Al Pacino), now in his 60s, seeks to free his family from crime and find a suitable successor to his empire. That successor could be fiery Vincent (Andy Garcia)... but he may also be the spark that turns Michael's hope of business legitimacy into an inferno of mob violence. The film’s meticulously restored picture and sound, under the supervision of American Zoetrope and Paramount Pictures, includes a new beginning and ending, as well as changes to scenes, shots, and music cues. The resulting project reflects author Mario Puzo and Coppola’s original intentions of The Godfather: Part III, and delivers, in the words of Coppola, “a more appropriate conclusion to The Godfather and The Godfather: Part II.”’ www.amctheatres.com/movies/the-godfather-coda-the-death-of-michael-corleone-65515

First review but I'm not registering (free) with Barry Hertz - Toronto Globe & Mail to read it (because of that murder I'm still wanted for ......Moderators: if anybody asks tell them you haven't heard of me - thanx guys The below is paraphrased - it closes on me pretty quick......sigh 3 stars out of 4.......apparently cuts to the pin ceremony quicker at the start...... and the end is a bit more "poetic".... "Instead it's the tiny, many imperceptible adjustments that Coppola makes throughout the film that torque the film that much closer to greatness" (something like this at the end ......) www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/film/reviews/article-just-when-you-thought-you-were-out-the-godfather-coda-the-death-of/
