First Reformed’s script is what works against it. Extremely weak take.

Performer of the Year... the nominees are:Brian Tyree Henry (Hotel Artemis, If Beale Street Could Talk, Irreplaceable You, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, White Boy Rick, Widows)Joaquin Phoenix (Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot, Mary Magdalene, The Sisters Brothers, You Were Never Really Here)John C. Reilly (Holmes & Watson, Ralph Breaks the Internet, The Sisters Brothers, Stan & Ollie)Rachel Weisz (Disobedience, The Favourite, The Mercy)*two of our performers tied for third* Apparently I'm an idiot and completely misunderstood the purpose of this category. I thought that it was for the top three best performances of the year.
I'm deeply sorry.
no specific rules. if that's how you wanted to roll then that's totally cool

And to think Buster Scruggs died for your sins!
But actually a pretty great lineup overall however.

And to think Buster Scruggs died for your sins! Tim Blake Nelson was 1 point off of 7th place. Thank jesus that joke of a performance didn't make it.

Good line-up. Thought MBJ would make it after the BP love in techs. But happy that many of my choices made it

Tyree Henry - is he that good in Widows/Beale? haven't seen them but I've seen the others and he's plain unremarkable in them.
Emma Stone has a major, diverse, dynamite two: Maniac (single-handedly kept it from fully sinking) and The Favourite. Others I'm sure noone voted for ---- Steve Buscemi with three: low-key Nancy, the jittery funny Death of Stalin, and a tough unlike-him Lean on Pete. Alex Wolff has two - Hereditary amazing / and World of Tmrw where he's ironic and slack against a hidden fearfulness.

Anyone hating on Eighth Grade should be legally required to go back and repeat middle school. C'mon now. I hate Eighth Grade and have posted before about why...... but let's kick it back, the AMARAS comes but once a damn year! , and I'll admit this is one of my most quoted IRL 2018 lines.........

Some excellent choices, however the old man was the only part of Swinton's performance that was worthwhile in my view (and even then her voice wasn't at all convincing) and I'm still trying to understand why Lively gives a completely different performance in the scene with her Twin and I'm not talking about as the twin

Some of my fav underrated supp actress perfs of the year were in not very good movies, but just wanna mention them for anyone interested - Edie Falco, Outside In Nadia Alexander, Blame Kristine Froseth, Sierra Burgess is a Loser Elizabeth Debicki, the Tale
re: Nivola ....what?? I thought his perf was all off.... but I think it was more the writing I didn't like tbh, the movie folds over itself and goes out of its way to ingratiate him to us and I didn't buy it.... it's sappy where instead it should've taken a stronger stance with the female leads. ("there's magic in the web of it" the movie quotes, but then goes soft on the situation!)
