I really don't know what's so special about the score in Annihilation (some typical ambient + unfitting guitar?) but the rest of the nominees are awesome. I personally like the Annihilation score, but, yeah, if Mandy had gotten in over it, the lineup woulda been perfect.

I’ve just accepted the fact that my music tastes are so far out of this wheelhouse. First Man is the only one I actually nominate. Not even If Beale Street Could Talk? Wtf It’s good, but I don’t love it.

finally Beale Street gets some love! but boy I misjudged how many people around here liked Annihilation. Barrow & Salisbury were on my radar last spring but got bumped down real quick. Like immediately after I watched Hereditary Stetson robbed I wasn't in love with Annihilation but some of the technical facets of it were outstanding. I'd be happy with it winning a few.

Is Toni Collette just staying in-character in that pic or does she actually wanna murder Ari Aster? Lmao

replace Eighth Grade with Thoroughbreds and that would've been perfect

Paul Dano and Brad Lee Cooper directed far better debut features. No 'Like' button this time!

The complete lack of Blindspotting and Into the Spider-Verse so far is infuriating me.

The complete lack of Blindspotting and Into the Spider-Verse so far is infuriating me. Debut feature for Bob Persichetti and Rodney Rothman but not Peter Ramsay, so it shouldn't have really qualified as a debut.

The complete lack of Blindspotting Was one point away from Sorry to Bother You in debut feature. Which hurt a lot since Blindspotting is one of my favorites of the year and the other one is one of the worst movies of the decade.

Shirkers and Minding the Gap are beautiful, the others I could take or leave. I knew McQueen didn't have a chance.

a shame about Birds of Passage. I guess just not enough people saw it? I feel like this voting bloc would have really gone for it.

Which hurt a lot since Blindspotting is one of my favorites of the year and the other one is one of the worst movies of the decade. Damn I wish I voted for Blindspotting, or anything that might beat f'n Eighth Grade which doesn't deserve its nod over the worthy debuts... Blame, Beast, Nancy, Hereditary, Mid90s, Searching, Blindspotting, Never Goin Back, and others....
