so it appears that no one watched Mary Queen of Scots Otherwise can't really argue with these techs. Surprised and delighted that Suspiria is doing so well, and I love the Shoplifters ensemble nod! Widows though?

Possibly, but the lighting kills some of it. That freaky tall snake beast would look awesome if it weren’t in blacklight.

Gonna go off-script for a second to personally bestow a special honorary mention to the late great Jóhann Jóhannsson for his outstanding, career-best work on the soundtrack of Mandy. He only missed the nomination by a narrow margin and if I recall correctly was actually #1 in the category for awhile during the earlier periods of the ballot-tallying. He didn't quite make our top five but his legendary achievement shall go down in the history books. RIP Jóhann.

Editing -
The Other Side of the Wind was a herculean task and they pulled it off. There's a short doc A Final Cut For Orson that gets into its editing process; I mean what other 2018 movie got two docs about its making? Others I voted for ----- First Reformed, a few slips but mostly immaculate in its edit, there's wit to some of the jump cuts. American Animals is very playful in its montage and pace and then later becomes something a little more serious and reflective, it's tricky to pull off with the doc crossover element. The Rider is beautifully put together, on such a small budget and the whole non-professional aspect, a bad editor might've made it awkward, instead it feels soulful especially by the end. Beast, with Polanskian psychology cues, the pic is quite improved by the edit I think and weaves really well thru and around the Buckley perf.

I’ve just accepted the fact that my music tastes are so far out of this wheelhouse.
First Man is the only one I actually nominate.

finally Beale Street gets some love! but boy I misjudged how many people around here liked Annihilation. Barrow & Salisbury were on my radar last spring but got bumped down real quick. Like immediately after I watched Hereditary Stetson robbed

I really don't know what's so special about the score in Annihilation (some typical ambient + unfitting guitar?) but the rest of the nominees are awesome.
