So, what really happened with the Leo stuff? Was it he was onboard when GDT was trying to get it done in the fall, but they couldn't get enough of the rest of the cast scheduling-wise, so had to move it and he dropped out because of Flower Moon? Did he just have misgivings about it and drop out?

Did he just have misgivings about it and drop out? I think he just decided against doing it, and we may never know why. If DiCaprio really wanted to do it, GdT would have waited for him the way Inarritu did with The Revenant.

The reports made it sound like he was on board so the only thing I can think of is scheduling... When they said Killers of the Flower Moon would film in March, he chose that. I wonder if it means he GDT won't work together again.

I'd love to see a remake of this and I'd have loved to see Leo in it.
Somehow my hype now is not what it used to be...

Has anyone seen the original? Classic film .....but not as good or dark as the book..........remake apparently is even more faithful, and in the book the ending is a knockout

Rooney and Cate on the sets of Nightmare Alley. They look like they are ready to do a Carol sequel.

Costume Design contender right out the gate.
The novel is an excellent slice of dark beauty, but I just don't have faith in Bradley Cooper to match Tyrone Power's excellent work. But we'll see. The supporting ensemble is cracking.

Production wrapped........ Production has wrapped on Guillermo del Toro’s “Nightmare Alley,” the upcoming psychological thriller film led by a starry ensemble including Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Rooney Mara, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, and Ron Perlman. While Disney-owned distributor Searchlight Pictures has yet to reveal a release date, the film’s co-screenwriter Kim Morgan (writing with Del Toro) revealed the end of the film’s production on Instagram Saturday. Independently, Guillermo del Toro confirmed that shooting was completed to IndieWire.www.indiewire.com/2020/12/guillermo-del-toro-nightmare-alley-wraps-production-1234604378/

Does that mean they might give it a release date in time for the Oscars or I'm asking too much?

Does that mean they might give it a release date in time for the Oscars or I'm asking too much? What for this current Oscar race? Or the next one?

Does that mean they might give it a release date in time for the Oscars or I'm asking too much? Absolutely not. Shooting is done, implying editing still has to begin. Late 2021 at the earliest.

It certainly isn't done just because it finished wrapping. Post-production often takes more time than actual shooting. They have to edit, compose a score, do special effects I'm guessing, market, most likely test screen and plan a festival drop etc. I highly doubt this comes out before October next year.
