Certainly her best album to date. I've always really liked her, but this is the first that feels truly great. Particular favourites are 'Love Song', 'The Greatest' and 'Hope is a dangerous thing...', as well as her fantastic 'Doin' Time' cover.

We have all heard Lana Del Rey's new album yes? Well if not then fix that asap ... here is the first track if you need a tease ... It's insanely good, I've been listening to it non-stop since it dropped. Everything about it is Lana at her absolute best: her voice, her lyrics, her melodies, it's all stunning. By far her greatest album yet, I can't even pick a favorite song. Since you already posted the title track, here's the spiritual experience that is The Greatest:

notacrook Zeb31 Agree that it's her best work to date which is saying a lot ... keeps growing on me the more I (obsessively) listen to it. So far I've been partial to "Fuck it I love you," "Love song," "California," and "The Next Best American Record" ... but shit, there's not a weak track on it and I feel like I have a new favorite with each new listen. Truly an incredible piece of work.

Saor's new album is great. Their best one yet. Definitely proves that they are one of the best black metal bands around today:

Mate, what other current artists do you like? 'Cause between Lana and The National (both of whom I adore, the latter being my favorite band ever) I'm really into your taste

Mate, what other current artists do you like? 'Cause between Lana and The National (both of whom I adore, the latter being my favorite band ever) I'm really into your taste Oh boy, loaded question! I shall do my best to answer it... Some all-time favorites who as far as I know are all still active today ... Radiohead (all-time favorites, though some days I think The National might have 'em beat), Nick Cave, Arcade Fire, Björk, Okkervil River, PJ Harvey, Sufjan Stevens, LCD Soundsystem, most Beck, Strokes obviously, Spoon, Death Cab for Cutie... Some more recent favorites who could become all-timers for me (some are damn close at this point) ... Mitski, Phoebe Bridgers, Frank Ocean, Janelle Monáe, Tame Impala, Future Islands, Beach House, Florence and the Machine, Father John Misty, Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen, The 1975, Arctic Monkeys, Cage the Elephant, The Regrettes... Surely a looooot that I'm forgetting including some acts that are more "minor" to my taste but that I nonetheless love (Andrew Bird, New Pornographers come to mind), but that should at least cover the bases I think.

Yeah, based on the names mentioned (which I myself know) I can safely say that our tastes definitely align Thank you for the recommendations! Now I'm definitely interested in getting to know some of these artists a bit closer!

New Pixies album is very good... certainly way better than their last two. And Black Francis is sounding a little bit like Tom Waits and/or later Leonard Cohen at times, lol. Will have to listen to it again to decide just how good it is...

New Tool record is so fucking bland Nah, it might be a step down from their other albums (especially lyrically), but Descending is easily one of the best songs they've ever put out and Invincible + the title track are great. Unless you just don't like Tool in general, in which case I get it.

This was a good summer that gave us new Tool and.... yes, Lana del Rey, which I'm never been a fan of, but the more I listen to this one, the more I dig it, love the piano, love the dialogue, the melancholy, a bit of Mitchell. <3

I'm going to see Lana Del Rey in a few hours. That show is gonna set some new records for awesomeness.
My favorite songs on the album are Venice Beach, How to Disappear, California, and Hope is a Dangerous Thing for a Woman Like Me.... currently.
I don't think she'll go back to the type of songwriting of Born to Die and the type of veneer of Ultraviolence. Those 2 probably stand out as favorites of mine mostly because they were the first 2 and they were the most accessible and listenable. (Moreso Born to Die I think her most popular 5 songs are still on that album), but I can see how musically and intellectually, Norman F.R. can be called her best. It consistently has a certain strong aesthetical thing going on that feels pure.

That was the best show I ever been to. My heart sunk when Lana announced she was on her last song. Because I did NOT want nor was ready for the night to end. She ended it with Venice Bitch. She changed part of the lyrics..... "Life's dream, I'm sweet for you" and changed it to "Life's dream, sending nudes to you. " Cheeky. She's such a tease. Here's a snippet from the show. The only video currently up right now:

That stretch from Venice Bitch thru California off of Lana's new album is amazeballs. Fuck it I Love You and Cinnamon Girl I like less than those others, but holy shit is that the best 7 song stretch of her career.
On Born to Die..........from Blue Jeans thru Million Dollar Man also kicks, but I think Radio and Diet Mountain Dew feel like they don't belong.

Funny, I actually think the middle is my least favorite stretch in the album ... and I love “Fuck it I love you,” probably still my favorite track, lol ... for me the album peaks at the ends, first four tracks and the last five roughly... If we’re talking best stretches in Lana’s discography ... the first seven or so tracks of Ultraviolence are damn near unimpeachable.

I admit this is based off of nothing except my own personal opinion. I have not read any consensus opinion yet. Maybe I gotta read into what others say, but so far yeah..... the middle seems to be the one making me go swimming. Maybe I catch the more subtle, personal songs rather than the catchier ones. But you can certainly make a case that someone else could find one the other. Every song is really good, but if I had two to leave off it would be Fuck it I Love You and Cinnamon Girl. Ultraviolence starts better than it ends definitely.......but Florida Kilos just kills it. Her last song always owns.

I don't know consensus either ... but for me I think that middle portion is a bit of a hitch in the road because the "Doin' Time" cover is my least favorite track on the album ... and that's really just my biased opinion because I kinda can't stand Sublime (sometimes like their lyrics, but their sound drives me up a wall...), and while Lana's twist on the song is certainly an improvement, whenever I hear it I just can't help but hear Sublime ... normally that's the only track I skip when I listen to the album. Otherwise, I think "How to disappear" and "Cinnamon girl" are the two that just feel a bit slight to me. I totally get preferring the more intimate songs to the "catchier" ones ... and normally I have that tendency too in my own preference ... but with something like "Fuck it I love you," which might seem like a "safe" favorite considering it's probably the most traditionally pop-sounding track on the album, it also just sounds like it has a lot more going on in it than a lot of the others ... plus it's one of the shorter tracks that I feel like does even more with less ... it's fully satisfying, emotional heft with a memorable melody. But then again I always find value in different tracks/nuances each time I listen to the record ... so maybe I'll come around to a similar view ... but in general it's a work we clearly both appreciate, so debating over minor preference feels sort of trivial

I actually think Doin' Time sounds like the most pop-y single (but then if it was already a popular song by Sublime it makes sense). It's comparable to Summertime Sadness. Not sure how I'd categorize Fuck It I Love You though. Totally see what you mean about finding How to Disappear slight. I see the slightness too, and I think it's the song most easy to ignore. It's kinda the one that people bypass. For me, the song is like Video Games. You don't hear anything initially because it's kinda of a mute and monotone sounding song, but where it peaks is ...... "But I love that man like nobody can. He moves mountains and pounds them to ground again" "Now it's been years since I left New York. And I've got a kid and two cats in the yard" sounds so grey-eyed soul - the stuff that made her career and the type of thing she's so good at. Obviously not comparing the two in terms of appeal power because obviously Video Games appeals to way more people and is one of her 5 most popular songs, but I think it's the closest to that vein if I had to make an educated comparison. And yes, not everyone can see the same subtleties and find common ground there, and debating favorite songs off of an album is as subjective as it gets, and the variance between the fans' choices could get all over the place. I wouldn't sweat it - it's definitely very interesting to hear another person's opinion though. And I'm pretty much as clueless about music from the 2010s as it gets, and I'm not qualified to make a comment on the landscape of music given the terribly small sample size I've perused - As a child of the 90s and 00s, but from what I have heard.... this album is my favorite since 2016. If I were to go buckwild out of total enthusiasm, I might even say it's my favorite since 2012.....and that's going up against herself..... Born To Die.

I've talked enough about this girl, so hopefully this is the last post. Can't promise anything though. So after 125 total plays, I think I've more or less finished finalizing my opinions. MAKE ME AS PERFECT AS YOU, LANA First tier songs (OMG. Unbelieveable stuff. Moves mountains) Venice Bitch Love Song How to Disappear California The Next Best American Record The Greatest Next tier songs: (LOVE these, can listen to these anytime. CAN JIVE TO) Normal Fucking Rockwell Mariners Apartment Complex Doin' Time Bartender Happiness is a Butterfly Hope is a Dangerous Thing for a Woman Like Me To Have Decent, but outliers (Even with that said, Fuck it I Love You is still decisively better than Cinnamon Girl, which is just the only one not even in the same playing field as the others) Fuck It, I Love You Cinnamon Girl
