Gary Oldman in Darkest Hour is probably the closest thing we get to be considered anything like a frontrunner at this stage.

I saw Stronger at an advanced screening and I think Jake Gyllenhaal would've won this year. I don't know enough about the contenders now to say much, but I imagine he'll be a pretty strong contender for a nom.

I'm not sure he'll be willing to work the circuit and play the game, but based solely on subject matter and the talent involved,

Oldman for The Darkest Hour is only the clear frontrunner, and even then I'm not sure if he's a lock right now for a nom. Depends on how well received the film is, of course.

I'm boarding the Hugh Jackman train. Biopic and Hugh actually knows how to sing and dance.

Yes, it's not quite a McConaissance, but he'll have good will from Logan, plus another skin cancer scare, plus he seems to be well liked by most people in the industry, etc. It does look like Gary Oldman could be hard to beat from how great his makeup is, and he's usually a very reliable actor who should be able to hit a home run with something as baity as Churchill. However, I'm not sure how many enemies he still has in Hollywood. It might be the kind of thing like Stallone or Murphy where the nomination ends up being his reward if there's a better liked actor that is neck and neck in the race. Plus, I know Hollywood has short memories, but I feel like they're not going to forget about Lithgow's Churchill so soon plus the other competing Churchill project will come out before that.

Stuhlbarg for supporting actor

I hope "LOGAN" becomes a Best Makeup frontrunner.

Leo for Novitiate got some strong notices out of Sundance. Hopefully she doesn't embarrass herself going for it this time.
