You never know with supporting actor. Warner Brothers obviously doesn't think it's in contention for a BP nom releasing it that early but if Hanks turns in a great performance in an otherwise good but not great movie he would not be out of the mix. We'll just have to see.

I can't tell if they are just dumping it to June because they know it's bad or pulling a Rocketman type of strategy, thus making it a summer commercial box office success and then a Golden Globe player.

Not interested in this at all except for Tom Hanks as the Colonel. Maybe I’ll end up being impressed with Austin Butler, but so far I haven’t been, and I don’t think he’ll come close to having the “it” quality that Elvis had.
I like the teaser though.
Also you can’t go wrong with Suspicious Minds even if it might be overplayed on radio, covers, in media, etc.

Lurhmann looks like he's doing too much. The scenes of kid Elvis as the centre of attention at some African-American spiritual congregation look cringe-worthy (and reductive of black people. Guess they are the Magical Negros who give the blessing to his talent or somesuch bullshit).
Butler seems inherently miscast, but looks like he's giving it his all, so may be able to overcome it.
Hanks looks...not good. He's a very fine actor, but I think there is a really good reason why he doesn't go out of his comfort zone too much, because you get things that look like this .
Still, it's just a trailer. Might be a solid/watchable film, but despite some strong techs and visuals, I'm not particularly convinced it'll be good

You can't tell about most movies from trailers but you really can't tell about this one from this - first of all Col. Parker was a strange character ........a strange dark character...........and so was Elvis (both of those things).........that kid doesn't exude Elvis at all.......... but he may in the film about Elvis. If Hanks pulls this off (big if) and can get a nomination or a win for it - and hey, why not - is anybody going to tell me that based on the Being The Ricardos trailer Kidman looked bettet than "awful" in that - it will be a small scale version of Henry Fonda in OUATITW - it will be a huge change of usual casting.........if he flops (yeah, he might), I think your next 3 time Oscar winner might be GOAT De Niro next year....which of course everybody who isn't a prick would want to see happen The interesting thing will be if they make Col. Parker sympathetic which would be.........f'n absurd....

It's bizarre how anytime you hear any announcements or news of a Hanks film, you scream "3rd Oscar", like he gets easily nominated for everything or there is some mad rush to give him one. We knew this wasn't a contender when the release dates changed. The man is a much loved workhorse, but I don't think he's on some AMPAS priority list to reward again. They barely nominate him anymore, and he baits more than anyone this side of DiCaprio.

Yikes, not feeling this at all. Granted, I don't know much about Elvis so there's that but the trailer itself really underwhelmed me. What's up with the washed out colors? What's up with the bee-sting makeup on Hanks? And with his odd-sounding delivery? This is quite tough to take seriously with memories of "Walk Hard" lingering on the mind.
But still, my main gripe is with the visuals. Why so unappealing? I think it's about time to let go of the goodwill I had towards Luhrmann because of Moulin Rouge.

Looks like an all time low performance for Hanks. And the rest... yeah, I don't know.

Hanks is giving off “worst Bond villain ever” vibes. Butler and the film itself look terrible. The King deserves better.

Tom was a Dutch Southerner - he talked like 2 different people at once........I can't tell how good Hanks is with it, but it's ripe for train wreck mockery if it doesn't work. He was an inconsistent talker in that way - WHICH - should be part of the characterization (ie he "talked" two ways at once about contracts and job repsonsibilities too)..........he baffled people in how he talked and what he talked about He's a great Shakespearean type villain character if done right.........but........."done right" is the question

The real guy's manner of speaking sounds authentic, believable. I suppose that's the thing with Luhrmann - stylization. But there's a line there that could easily be crossed into silliness.

It's bizarre how anytime you hear any announcements or need of a Hanks film, you scream " 3rd Oscar"Nope. He'll win one soon enough for something or other, and when he does I'll say "I called it!" like you my loony tunes MAR stalker Do you have a rapist to defend - Michael Jackson or somebody btw? Um Maybe Hanks doesn't win for this .........maybe he wins for this instead ......you don't like my posts.......tough? Block me? Fuck off? All 3? Summer releases make more sense right now, even for low-key prestige pics, because there are far fewer restrictions in the summer.

My problem with that trailer is while it seems like it's perfectly overblown, it also just that it looks like every music biopic ever. At this point the genres has dried itself really really well, it's dull. If only Walk Hard had been a hit, we wouldn't even have this problem to begin with. As for Hanks, he's giving me off real mustache twirling supervillain vibes, with that accent and everything. I hope the execution is better, then that trailers suggesting.

Hope Hanks isn't doing the SNL Goldfinger impression for the entire movie. I think the project has tremendous potential for stylized melancholy, which Luhrmann can do fairly well, but it was always going to be limited by its director.

I don't think Miles Teller is a great actor but I think he would have been a better pick for this role.

After all, for as much as people clown on his style over substance vibe, Baz is a pretty great populist filmmaker.

That has to be one of the worst edited trailers of recent times. Really hard to judge how the quality of the film will be when the trailer is edited chaotically and has no proper flow. Weird too since Warner Bros. is really good at making trailers.

I'm happy with Carpenter's A to Z biopic where Kurt Russell is damn good. It'd be fun to double feature with Walk Hard, actually.
This trailer is way too long, they highlight too many cliche lines, and the cast feels pretty wrong even Hanks who's supposed to have a helluva year...
Comfy late releases for the Wes Anderson, The Man Called Otto, Geppetto (his third live action part with Zemeckis after Gump and Cast Away). It covers almost every corner of pop appeal.... but he's gotta deliver too and these are roles with high-up expectations.

shockingly bad trailer, and my expectations were already low but I wasn't expecting it to look *this* bad. Silly editing gimmicks on overdrive, glossy airbrushed visuals and makeup, chaotic camera tricks every other frame, and Hanks doing funny accents... wow

That guy is way too ugly for Elvis, that movie looks way too basic to be made by Baz, and it goes so quickly you might not even notice, but what in the blue hell is going on with the screenplay credits at the end?
