Interesting turn of events... His firing was unwarranted so this is great news.

Way to drag this out Disney. What does that mean for Suicide Squad 2 -- I mean The Suicide Squad? I guess he was never officially confirmed as directing, only writing and "overseeing" it.

Copying my original thoughts.
”This is good.
Especially after the Kevin Hart fiasco. It felt so wrong that Gunn (sickening as his tweets were) made an active attempt to apologize and got canned, but Disney were still offering Hart an out after doubling down.”

All of this alt-right MAGA pandering, and for nothing. Way to go Disney. Also YAY!!!

Glad they brought him back. I’m guessing the real reason is that every known director they asked to take over turned them down. I’m sure they thought they could easily replace Gunn with high quality director and fans would simmer down but then every director was like “no, this is James Gunn’s film.”

This is great. Gunn has shown over the years that he had grown past the creepiness of those old tweets, and what's the point of firing someone over something they tweeted back in 2011? Even if people change, they'll always have to be hostilized for saying or thinking something problematic, even if they apologized and changed for the best?
IMO, Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 is the most emotionally ressonating movie on the MCU. It feels right that James Gunn will be back to finish his trilogy at last.

So I guess people decided to chill. Disney probably couldn't get movie made. So Sophia's choice: make a billion dollars or listen to people who are made and won't watch anyway.

To be honest, it sounds like Disney were simply waiting it out for the outrage to die down before bringing Gunn back into the fold. Apparently, no other director was approached to take over in all these months (that's the official line anyway)
They had to make a show of punishing Gunn because his actions went against the Disney brand, but they calculated that offensive tweets from a decade ago were the kind of thing people would get over several months later.

Yeah, feels like that to me as well. And it's a good move on their part considering that now this third installment will have MUCH more attention paid to it. They created this extra publicity for it and for Gunn and it all feels like a part of their all-encompassing MCU masterplan

Any word on if Debicki is back for this? She was so much fun in her limited screentime in the second one I thought they should make her the main villain in the sequel.

According to imdb and wikipedia, she is back. I thought she'd be the main villain too but it's been confirmed to be Chukwudi Iwuji as the High Evolutionary.

I complain about MCU a lot but Suicide Squad and Peacemaker made me a Gunn fan and I'm now ready to like these movies. Don't remember much about the first one and never saw the sequel so I'll probably do a rewatch and some catchup, but that's a solid trailer.

The first one is actually kind of magnificent, and the second... um, it has *problems.* But the core characters are a lot of fun and they make the thing work in spite of every effort the narrative makes to undermine them.

I guess I'll end up watching this since the Guardians have been my favorite part of the MCU but I'm really over the whole marvel thing in general at this point.

A) huge win for practical makeup effects. B) Guardians is one of those rare beasts that matches quantity of makeup with quality of makeup.
