Bienvenue and welcome to our second annual gathering to determine our favourite fifty films of the year of our lord, 2018. Let's get to it.•PM me or post in this thread your ballot with your favorite (up to, but not more) 20 films of 2018 by Thursday, June 20th @11:59pm CST (or honestly up until the presentation, but that's getting ahead of ourselves). So you have two and a half months to watch, catch up, ponder, and submit your ballots. •Please, please, rank these films just for the ease of it. #1 will earn 20, #2 earns 19....and #20 will earn 1 point. If you submit less than twenty, which is encouraged if you can't fill twenty spots, than your last place vote gets one point and increases from there. •Feel free to vote early, you'd be able to edit you're rankings up until the voting deadline. So if you submit your ballot, but find an unexpected film that makes the cut you can change that. Or just wait, up to you. •Eligibility rules are the same as our AMARA's. Festival release dates are going to be ignored and a release within an affiliated production company's country will be acknowledged. If you need further clarification on these feel free to ask. If something doesn't qualify is voted for, I'll clarify with the voter about such concerns. You Were Never Really Here IS eligible this year despite the rules. •Any film released within the 2018 year is eligible, this includes TV movies, Documentaries, Shorts, etc. TV Miniseries or television shows are not eligible unless it premiered at a theater. Here is a letterboxd version of our results from last year2017Happy voting. Post FYCs in this thread

FYC: Yes, I need to watch this. I've only heard great things and the story behind it is so tragically fascinating. Hoping it becomes widely available in the US soon.

FYC: Wildlife Private Life Minding the Gap Madeline's Madeline American Animals Support the Girls Hearts Beat Loud Tully (None of these are super under-the-radar or anything, but they should all be seen before voting) Crazy Rich Asians -- the best studio film of the year. I feel like it's been overlooked by cinephiles and whatnot as typical mainstream fare but I found it to be so much more enjoyable than just that ... so please at least consider it!
Also: don't forget about You Were Never Really Here. I know the eligibility thing has probably confused some people, but remember that it is eligible this year so please please keep that in mind.

DeepArcherIt's one of the most nihilistic films I've ever seen that manages to create an atmosphere of desparation and despair few films have ever done. It's a very personal work and it definitely shows the troubled psyche of it's director, but it certainly was one of the most interesting cinematic experiences I've had in the last few years, even if it is a very difficult film to sit through.

9 Days Remain. We all know that just about everybody makes lists here! So why not post the one labeled "Top-20 of 2018" that's stored on your flash drive to my PMs so they can be tallied and I'll reveal our favorite 50 as a group at a later date. It's as easy as a copy-paste.

Some of these will most certainly make it, some have a decent shot and a few probably have none, but please consider them all before you vote.

1. Cold War 2. Roma 3. A Star Is Born 4. Won't You Be My Neighbor? 5. Hereditary 6. The Favourite 7. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 8. The Death of Stalin 9. Annihilation 10. First Reformed 11. The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling 12. A Quiet Place 13. Bad Times at the El Royale 14. BlacKkKlansman 15. Avengers: Infinity War 16. Stan & Ollie
There weren't 20 films I loved enough to want to vote for here, so decided to do a Top 15, but I find myself smiling every time I think of Stan & Ollie, so I had to give it a 16th vote. Plus, technically, Zen Diaries was a TV Documentary, so if I was doing Best Films of 2018 list, I wouldn't include it and Stan & Ollie would be one of my 5 runner-ups.

Didn't these use to be held in February? Was it fine to not watch every single movie before voting then. It's June, 1st...
Extended until June 20th
