I love Ang Lee, but this sounds awful. Like something Jean Claude Van Damme would have starred in in 1994. Same here. Will Smith and Clive Owen do not inspire confidence -- and as much as I like her, neither does MEW. I do hope I'm wrong. I don't want Lee to have another massive misfire on his hands.

MEW is repped by WME. Interesting.

I think its cool that Ang Lee is directing a sci fi film. The plot does sound a bit silly and Will Smith has been in some very bad movies lately but I am still intrigued by this. Count me in.

I hope dummies like me will understand why this 120 fps thing is different than the usual stuff when they see it.

I know it's only been like two and a half years but I somehow totally missed the news that Billy Lynn was shot this way (shows just how much I cared about it, I guess). Jesus, that sounds like it'd be hard to watch. I mean, how the hell was that still a long halftime walk?

Give it up! Not even Cameron can get me interested in higher frame rates. Every time it was tried it failed spectacularly. So far it can't even pass for a gimmick. And I'd imagine it's a VERY costly gimmick with all the extra effects.

I would actually be really interested in seeing it the way Lee intends it to be but the real problem with this 120fps thing is that it just won't be available to most of us commoners. Which is a shame because I kinda want to experience the effect on the big screen to see for myself whether it's actually worth a damn.
For anyone curious how it looks, here's a clip of Billy Lynn in 60fps:

That Billy Lynn clip just looks kinda fake to me. Maybe it's just the whole lighting and everything, but something honestly seems off about the speed.

This is what caused so many complaints - that it made the movie look like a fake TV production, that it took the cinematic feeling away from the film. But Ang Lee really believes in this way of film-viewing, I guess. As for me, I kinda like the effect in that clip (feels somehow fresh) but I wonder how a whole movie watched in that format would feel like.

Billy Lynn was a misfire (I remember on the old board I predicted it to win Best Picture lol) but I pretty much dig all of Ang's other films I'll still give this one a chance .

I remember on the old board I predicted it to win Best Picture lol So did I! I remember seeing the trailer in late spring 2016 and saying "This is guaranteed to win with American voters" given how it was an "epic" combination of football and military patriotism and of course following Lee's BD win. How wrong I was.

Awww man.
I totally misread this as "The Omega Man" aka I Am Legend (and no, not the version where it's because he likes to listen to Bob Marley) and I was really excited. But now I'm not. I'm no longer excited.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but that actually looks interesting. I'm here for a Clive Owen resurgence.

I see the portal to the mid-2000s that brought us Venom is still active.
