Sometimes she can be a bit much, but most of the time I quite like her. She should've won in a landslide in 2015 for The Hateful Eight (and props to her for taking a rather thinly-written and rather monstrous caricature and making her compelling), and I think she is also excellent in Dolores Claiborne and Georgia. A lot of fun in The Hudsucker Proxy, too. I always wished she'd had more to do in Road to Perdition, too.

She's pretty great - especially when she was at her peak which to me is stuff like Miami Blues and Short Cuts - her early 90s work is all stellar. I loved her in The Hateful Eight a film I like far more than most and like how she suggests so many things about that character in between the dialog.
I caused a little stir on here when I said someone else should have been cast in Destroyer - less glam, more straight ahead, and this is who I mean (though the movie still wouldn't work).
I wish more people watched Atypical which is a sometimes wonderful (and wonderfully acted) Netflix show imo.

I really like her. She definitely seems like she could be a potential favorite of mine once I've seen more of her filmography. I liked her performance in eXistenZ, she was great in Twin Peaks and I also enjoyed her small role in Good Time. And her performance in The Hateful Eight is one of my favorites of the decade... didn't care for her in Annihilation, though.

Definitely
'94: Lead Actress - Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle (WIN) '94: Supporting Actress - The Hudsucker Proxy (very close, slightly #2... would be my win any other year) '95: Lead Actress - Dolores Claiborne '99: Lead Actress - eXistenZ '01: Supporting Actress - The Anniversary Party '07: Lead Actress - Margot at the Wedding (if supporting, she would be my win) '15: Supporting Actress - The Hateful Eight '18: Supporting Actress - Patrick Melrose (WIN)
Maybe
'89: Supporting Actress - Last Exit to Brooklyn '96: Lead Actress - Bastard Out of Carolina
How can someone with such a loaded filmography be so underrated?

One of the best actresses of her generation and I'm glad recently she started to get attention again, hopefully "Hateful Eight" will not be her last when it comes to getting close to win the gold. Some of her excellent performances include "Dolores Claiborne", "Hudsucker Proxy", "Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle", "Georgia", "Single White Female", "Washington Square", and "Miami Blues".

An absolutely astonishing actress who keeps getting underused by filmmakers who don't seem to realize what diamond is in their hands. When they do realize that, movie magic happens.
Her performance in "Georgia" is genuinely one of my absolute all time favorites. One of those cases where you see a person totally pour their soul out in front of you, and all that for a movie! She just left me speechless.
Of course she's also a great comedienne - her Katharine Hepburn-ish turn in "The Hudsucker Proxy" is a pure delight and Daisy from "The Hateful Eight" is one of QT's most memorable characters because Leigh isn't afraid to swing for the fences. She's just amazing and I hope more directors see that and give her properly juicy roles.

Gravely underrated in my opinion. Versatile actress who ended up 55 yo having a supporting role in a QT movie to be nominated for the first time.
Dolores Claiborn, Road to perdition and the hateful 8 my favorite performances of her but most of all The Machinist.

She is an animal. One of my absolute favourites. Love the hell out of her in everything that allows her to show what she can do. Her straighter stuff in things like Mrs. Parker and Dolores Claiborne is the lesser stuff for me.

She oozes a sense of cleverness and mystery (in ExistenZ and specially in The Hateful Eight)... almost always good to see her.

Hudsucker is my absolutely favourite, but my fave is pretty much anything where she isn't tied down by having to play it painfully straight like Margot or Dolores Claiborne. Definitely sounds like a great addition to Hunters

Love her........Tbh I would hope that Hunters season 2 would be all scenes with her, Pacino, and Udo Kier (who I just watched in Altes Geld (pretty awesomely weird)) Love all the performances ^ especially Last Exit To Brooklyn which is an uncompromising turn.......I grew to love her in Atypical too..... Georgia, Mrs Parker and The Vicious Circle, Dolores Claiborne, Rush- her early to mid-90s were something........was glad to see her pop up in Possessor. She's memorable early on in the "how is this movie not great?" The Men's Club - which should have been amazing but isn't - great set-up, great cast, sometimes great director - ????................observation: she's played A LOT of hookers..........um

JJL becomes one my favorite actress more and more the more I see of her. Like many of my favorite performers, she perfectly straddles character actor ability and movie star appeal. She can do broad and gimmicky just as well as she can do natural and specific, not to mentioned comedy just as well as drama ... just insanely underrated for her versatility, I'll never not be happy to see her show up somewhere. She also has a pretty quietly great auteur resume and filmography... what's not to love! Top 5 (with an obligatory honorable mention for her wonderful work alongside Tim Roth in Twin Peaks: The Return): 1. The Hudsucker Proxy 2. Fast Times at Ridgemont High 3. Kansas City 4. Short Cuts 5. Flesh + Blood

Another that'll have a cult following, or already does? She was a pretty daring actress right away in her teens and 20s and on.... you could go thru her early TV Movies and fill out a bingo card of social issues (I like Angel City with Paul Winfield). And speaking of TV she's got good taste lately... in the last five years - Twin Peaks, Patrick Melrose, the wonderful Atypical, and now Hunters. I didn't see Lisey's Story but that's some dream teaming. But no Emmy action yet. Unlike her parents who both have Emmy noms - and holy shiee I'm just finding out about her parents now. The tragic Vic Morrow! and Barbara Turner who wrote Georgia and adapted Cujo and was very good in Nightmare in Chicago (1964) that Altman directed; he also directed Morrow in Combat! So he's worked with the whole family!

I finally watched "Single White Female" and "Georgia". She really should've been nominated for Georgia, I can see why she wasn't but damn she was good.
