I don't care if Denzel already said he was done directing after Fences, I'm still erect.

Sounds interesting, although I'm looking forward to Denzel's next acting project.

Fascinating - I mentioned Denzel in the "guys who are MIA" thread a while back and he seemed on an acting tear with something heavy coming as he nears 65 and his last was a lighter fare..........can't say I would have called this move.

Sounds interesting, although I'm looking forward to Denzel's next acting project. Ditto. Denzel is showing he knows how to age gracefully into roles though. He's been attached to Journal For Jordan for years as the lead actor, so it's pretty big of him to admit he's aged out of the role, and still take it on just as a directing project.

Seems to be getting closer: “Journal for Jordan” Imagine a father-son relationship that exists only on paper; for one child, it was his reality. Based on the memoir by Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Dana Canedy, “Journal for Jordan” is the story of Canedy, First Sgt. Charles Monroe King, and their son, Jordan. King was deployed to Iraq during the first months of Jordan’s life. Worried about how his time overseas could end, he began composing a journal for his infant son in case of his death; he finished writing it shortly before he was killed by an IED, when Jordan was only seven months old. Denzel Washington is set to direct the emotional family drama, with Michael B. Jordan starring as Sgt. King.
Vickie Thomas Casting is finding talent for the project, which will shoot in New York, Boston, and Washington, D.C., this fall.www.backstage.com/magazine/article/whitney-houston-biopic-kim-coleman-now-casting-71559/

Directed by Washington?? This will suck so bad, Fences was deeply mediocre aside from Davis's acting.

It sounds too cloying for me. I like Antwone Fisher alot, haven't seen The Great Debaters, and only saw about 30 minutes of Fences.

Looks like they've started filming.. I have a feeling Jordan is ready for his first Best Actor Oscar nomination, and Denzel may likely to be the one to direct him to it with this movie.

Denzel is definitely good working with actors as a director. I'll be curious to see how this turns out since there will obviously be some war/battle elements to this film. Be interesting to see how it stretches Denzel as a director with this type of material and see what kind of performance he can pull out of Michael B. Jordan with his direction.

No confidence for this one either. Denzel Washington is a pretty mediocre director, Fences was really forgettable, and it managed to get Oscar noms only because him and Davis were in it, and it was adapted from an August Wilson play.
I don't think this movie will succeed the same way.

Well whatever the final product for the movie looks like, it has a prime release date in the middle of the next Oscar season so that's good. Expecting MBJ working with Denzel to take his acting craft to the next level with this one.

Expecting MBJ working with Denzel to take his acting craft to the next level with this one. Yeah, Denzel is obviously an incredible actors director. He got a wonderful performance from an unknown Derek Luke in Antwone Fisher, terrific performances from his The Great Debaters cast, and one of the all-time great ensemble cast performances from his cast in Fences. So Journal For Jordan looks at the minimum to probably be a strong acting play (with it's ceiling being director/BP nods as well) not only for Michael B Jordan, but for Chante Adams as well. I could see both being in contention for Oscar nods, with this kind of emotional material, under Denzel's direction. Huge break for Adams. Who knows...there also might be a juicy supporting role in there for someone like Tamara Tunie.Just realised the new Oscar season may be a pretty huge Oscar season for Denzel as both an actor and filmmaker with both Journal For Jordan and The Tragedy Of Macbeth in play.

Someday I believe that Michael B. Jordan will finally breakthrough with the Academy, but it’s not going to be with this. Could be a hit although again with COVID, it’s hard for me to say, but definitely not an awards movie.

This actor - who I made fun of for "not using his head" with some projects he's attached to, actually IS using his head here .........now I can't say this looks "good" (at all) but: The dude takes his shirt off (+1), gets his lady coffee (I guess, +2)) and tastes like Oregano (is that what she said?........ok, whatever +3?) Possibly a hit....if we have those any more.....

Looks like it could be a pretty solid drama and certainly a tear-jerker but I agree that MBJ probably isn’t getting nominated for this.
