I think I have to award it jointly to Anthony Hopkins in Legends of the Fall and Hilary Swank in The Black Dahlia. Both shockingly bad, really.

Julie Benz in that Boondock Saints sequel. I still have to sleep with the lights on because I hear her southern accent in the dark.

A performance that really bothered me that has gotten some praise (Ebert) was Richard Gere - (an actor I loathe) in Mr. Jones. I tend to like big performances - very few actors can go both big and small and even if they go big and miss, I admire the effort.
In this film Gere goes big and small and misses out on both to me - and it isn't rooted in anything - it isn't manic in a believable way or sullen in a way resembling bipolar disorder, it's rather a fake approximation of both. This is actually an interesting role, and he swings and misses all through this film on it.

and Hilary Swank in The Black DahliaI will never understand how a.) Brian de Palma expects us to believe that people could think that Hilary Swank and Mia Kirshner look alike, and b.) that de Palma didn't just cast Mia Kirshner in both roles to heighten the doppelgänger aspect of the characters, as well as to take advantage of a far superior actress's talents. As for my own choice for worst performances I've ever seen, there are so very many to choose from, but I'll give a special shoutout to the casts of Garden State and What Maisie Knew.

You guys are way too harsh. There are hundreds of performances in B-movies way worse than anything mentioned so far.
Chris Klein in Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun-Li may be as bad as it gets though. Fascinatingly awful.

Discounting non-actors who make their living doing something else, Malin Akerman in Couple's Retreat. The movie is trash already, but her porta-potty of a performance makes you wish you spent two hours inside of an actual porta-potty instead.

Performances so terrible that they're fascinatingly watchable: Keanu Reeves, Bram Stoker's Dracula Chris Klein, Street Fighter II: The Legend of Chun-Li Tommy Wiseau, The Room
Performances so terrible that they're grating, annoying, and truly unwatchable: Sofia Coppola, The Godfather Part III Jake Lloyd, Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace Jesse Eisenberg, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Renee Zellweger, Cold Mountain Hayden Christensen, Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones Uma Thurman, Batman & Robin Tim Roth, The Hateful Eight Jennifer Lawrence, anything

Yeah, and there's quite a few things in that vein that are widely seen where the whole cast is clearly worse than anyone being mentioned here (i.e The Room) so there's really no excuses.

Just off the top of my head, Cameron Diaz in Gangs of New York. I actually didn't think Leo's performance was much better.
Of course I've seen much worse, but the ones where you have high hopes going in (like Cotillard in DKR) are obviously harder to stomach.

Yep, this thread is basically how the Razzies pick their nominees and winners. Not the actual '"worst" performances of the year, but campy or mediocre performances in high profile movies. I've watched enough B- movies to see some truly horrific, sub-amateur level "acting". Most of the performances mentioned so far feel Oscar calibre in comparison to the worst truly on offer.

Are you forgetting where you are? As if you, and only you, have seen so many movies that only your truly advanced experience can answer this question. We've all probably seen tons of the shit you're looking for but those performances are so bad, they're not worth remembering. By the way, thanks for reminding me Chris Klein was even in The Legend of Chun-Li.

Nobody ever can beat Alberto Tomba and Michelle Hunziker in Alex l'Ariete. There's even a scene where Tomba reads the script onscreen.
