Horizon Zero Dawn: Love this! I just beat the main story last night, and I do have to say that I was disappointed with how the story felt like it got progressively thinner as it went along, and maybe a tad generic too, but it was a great mystery to solve and adventure to undertake nonetheless. What's really special is the interaction between story and world-building here, and I think the world-building is absolutely top-notch. The setting is so unique and I think incredibly well-developed. In addition to the world being breathtakingly gorgeous, this was a game that I literally just loved being in, I could ride around those environments for hours without being bored. The gameplay is insanely, insanely fluid and fun; well, combat against human enemies was a bit more generic third-person shooter fare, but the machine combat (which, of course, is most of it) was the real standout. It almost gave me Shadow of the Colossus vibes but obviously with a more traditional approach than just a series of boss battles, nonetheless it's great how many unique creature designs they managed to put in here, and discovering new ones was even more exhilarating than discovering new parts of the world.
It definitely feels like the great first entry into a great franchise and I can't wait to see where HFW goes and what they tweak. I think for me if the story is a bit more original and the side quests are a bit less repetitive, those improvements would make all the difference into taking something already great and elevating it to the next level.
Oh, and how could I forget! Aloy has easily earned her place as one of my favorite game protagonists, certainly of this console generation. Ashly Burch is the real deal.

Once I finish Bioshock 1 and 2 and the collection goes on sale, I'd like to check it out.

I'm on a bit of a BioShock binge recently. I'm alternating between playing both BioShock 1 and 2.

Finally bit the bullet on an MMO and got Final Fantasy XIV. I'm a Level 18 lancer right now and I'm quite enjoying it, despite having never played something on this scale before.

Started Grounded ... and while it's fun to explore and craft (and kill giant-ass spiders), I hate the food/drink mechanic. "You are thirsty" comes up every 10 minutes or so and then I have to try and find some damn clean water.

I finally managed to finish BioShock 1 and 2. This is an awesome series.
I gotta complete the Minerva's Den and Burial at Sea DLCs as well. I bought The Collection recently on Steam on a sale.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice: Really breathtaking audiovisual achievement with some fascinating concepts and a great, powerful storyline. One could argue that it sort of just feels like a God of War demo but it very much works as its own, smaller-scale thing. The combat is appropriately challenging (for my taste -- not overly punishing but doesn't hold your hand either) and insanely satisfying. Only real complaint is that this has some of the most annoying puzzles I've encountered in a game in a recent memory, and it keeps throwing the same basic ones at you over and over again. Really hinders the pacing and my enjoyment of an otherwise pretty great experience.

Really hinders the pacing and my enjoyment of an otherwise pretty great experience. It’s a good game, and I never want to touch it again. Speaking as someone who’s spent years trying, failing, and getting back up to combat mental illness and anxiety attacks, this game royally fucked with my head. To be fair, that’s certainly an achievement here. The sound design (especially on headset) is some of the best I’ve ever heard in a game, and the voiceovers are on point. The combat gets a little repetitive going forward, but the simplicity serves it well, as well as the shifting environmental landscapes and visual tricks that reflect Senua’s mind. It’s accurate and spot on in its depiction of how mental illness can affect someone, and how trauma - untreated in the past or ongoing - can decay it... but I ain’t playing it again. Good game, but I’m never going back.

I'm playing Dark Souls... again. I just got backstabbed by Havel recently. That is the most embarrassing moment in my Souls experience.

Been working my way through Resident Evil 2. Pretty punishing, kind of annoying -- mostly fun. The Tyrant makes me shit my pants every damn time he appears.

well, even though I feel like I was playing a lot of AC Odyssey this year, turns out I've only played for 85 hours. I guess that checks out because I only started playing it a few months ago but I really felt like I put in a ton of time playing this thing. I finished the entire main story, killed all the cult members, discovered every region (this is a huge map y'all) and synched most sync points, and got a few hours into the Fate of Atlantis DLC... and I'm pretty much done because Elysium sucks.
85 hours is rookie numbers for this kind of game. I'll be disappointed if I don't sink at least 500 into Cyberpunk.

I finished my replay of and basically 100%-ed BioShock Infinite on Hard Mode. Only the two 1999 Mode-related achievements remain for the base game, and I don't think I'm quite cut out for that . Need to get on to the Burial at Sea expansions after this.
For the most part, Hard Mode was surprisingly easy enough. It only got hard from Emporia and the initial Siren fight completey kicked my ass backwards, so I had to exploit the covers and the Dollar Bill machines for the next two fights. Otherwise, I died a lot less, made better use of the Vigors (Undertow and Shock Jockey OP) and managed to complete the final mission on the first try.
Apart from the BioShock games, I've been spending time on The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky and Silent Hill 2.
