Final Fantasy VII.
Modern games are missing the personality that this brings to the table. The environments are extraordinarily immersive and lived in, and the NPCs all have personality in one or two lines.

But this fanmade video... I choose to view this as canon.

Believe me, except for that one time I accidentally let him die in the suicide mission so he was absent in ME3, I’ll never not romance Garrus.

I'm planning on romancing Traynor when I start up ME3 again. I love Traynor's personality, and that she isn't a badass fighter like everyone else. Such a contrast to the rest of the cast.

Last game I completed was The Silent Age. I had played it before on my iPad Mini, but never got to the second episode. Great little game.

Detroit: Become Human - It’s weird that I’m becoming friends with a menu screen.
More of the usual Quantic Dream tropes, but a significant step up from Beyond with the choice based mechanics. It actually feels like what I do has consequences, which has led to some tense gameplay moments. And why isn’t Clancy Brown given more to do?

It actually feels like what I do has consequences, which has led to some tense gameplay moments. And why isn’t Clancy Brown given more to do? Finally finished it. If you’re focusing really hard and think carefully, you’ll be able to keep your characters alive just fine. Of the three storylines, I’d rank them Connor > Markus > Kara, although Kara had me the most emotionally invested, if only because I was so scared for Alice. The whole time, I kept thinking “You hurt that girl, I will fucking end you!”

What Remains of Edith Finch - Did you know Annapurna has an interactive branch? And they made this game?
Essentially a walking simulator, you experience the history of the apparently cursed Finch family, and uncover the mystery surrounding many of their deaths. Using the analog sticks and the R1 button, you control them in an anthology style presentation, each story relying on its own unique style of play. Some are darkly hilarious, while others are outright tragic, getting into some oddly meta-territory at times, with a stronger emotional current drawing you through. I don’t know if it’s quite enough to justify paying $19.99 for it (especially because I can’t picture repeating it), but it is worth experiencing in some way at least once.

So I fiiiiinally got around to playing Shadow of the Colossus (PS4 remaster, of course) after meaning to for the longest time, and I loved it. Doubt I need to heap more praise upon it than it's already gotten for years. I mean, the gameplay mechanics are kind of a bitch and it's sort of a shoddy experience overall, but the art design is absolutely stunning and this isolated world it creates for itself is nothing short of breathtaking and fantastically transportive. I can see why some people feel the gameplay to be too repetitive, and I had the same fears, but somehow I never felt that problem in my own experience -- each colossi is so damn unique in design, each its own puzzle to solve, and as aggravating as it could be, it was so damn fun. (For the record, some of my favorites: Avion (5th), Hydrus (7th), Phalanx (13th), Malus (16th). Lamest was Phaedra (4th). Most annoying bitch to kill was Dirge (10th).) And while it was a bit light on actual narrative for my taste, the ending absolutely devastated me. From the fake-out of Agro's death (I was screaming) onward ... honestly it's hard to think of something from a video game as viscerally devastating as Wander on his very last leg attempting to move towards Mono all the whilst being sucked backwards to be sealed off from her forever ... I mean, damn. It's the first game I've played-through in a long ass time and I'd like to think this really reinvigorated my love for the medium. Hopefully you'll hear more from me in this thread in the near future, then.

Been taking advantage of my new PS Now subscription since last weekend.
Started off with a Batman: Arkham City playthrough (first time in years) that I finished in probably just under 8 hours on normal. It's still probably one of my favorite games ever even if it don't hold up *quite* as well as I would have hoped, and I think a large reason why is that I just played through it so much faster than I ever did in the past that for the first time ever it felt a bit slight to me when it's always just felt so epic. Not to mention its successors obviously expanded the scope and of the open-world especially, and I don't think I've played-through City since Knight came out, so I guess maybe it would inevitably feel dwarfed in comparison at least in that specific regard (still no doubt that City is the strongest of the series overall obviously). That said I still adore the setting, the atmosphere, the set-pieces (some boss fights underwhelmed me from what I remembered, but I can always count on Mr. Freeze to have me on edge), the general concept & pacing of the story going through the rogues' gallery of villains, and of course the voice acting. Plus there's just so much nostalgia value in it for me that it'll always be rewarding & a hell of a fun time. Once I started I couldn't tear myself away.
Followed that up with a playthrough of Mirror's Edge which I'd wanted to play for the longest time and just now got to for the first time. Kinda hated it and kinda loved it. And mostly just hated it in the sense that it was frustrating ... much harder gameplay than I was expecting though I think it's just because it's so different that it takes some getting used to and I certainly got better with it as it went along and started playing through the levels faster. That said the controls are kinda basic ... I mean you literally just use L1 for almost everything, seriously? ... which is shocking considering how relatively varied your arsenal of abilities is (though you also don't gain any new abilities as you go along which is, strange?). Anyway, as often as I was frustrated it's still fun as fuck. It truly is a simple as "Parkour: The Video Game," it's what I was expecting and I didn't need it to be anything more than that. As I said with Shadow of the Colossus a lot of the fun comes from those unique, totally exhilarating moments and while Mirror's Edge didn't have quite the same heights as that one it did often have the same effect (jumping on trains! jumping on helicopters!), largely because of how purely unique the gameplay is and there's nothing like it that I have experience with it. Of course the art design is gorgeous (though I have to note: it's so damn jarring that the cutscenes are in a totally different art style from the actual gameplay, and though I like both styles a lot I wish they'd just picked one), the entire thing is popping with beautiful colors and such unique and detailed environments. The story is practically non-existence and just there to give you excuses to parkour, but honestly that's okay ... there's still enough vague world-building and intrigue there that it evokes its dystopian setting quite nicely without veering too far into the territory of cliche. This game sure has its problems here and there but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a great time with it.

I installed Neverwinter Nights 2 just to play Mask Of The Betrayer once more. The game is an absolute masterpiece. One of the most unique and profound rpg's I've ever played through.

I've been playing Dishonored, which is fun as fuck. The setting and world-building are effortlessly immersive and detailed, the art design is top-notch, and the gameplay is just *spectacular* -- straightforward enough to not be annoying but also challenging enough to be appropriately frustrating when it needs to be, it makes you earn it at times but it's some of the most gratifying and cathartic gameplay and when you get into a groove it's just a blast of euphoria. Reminds me a lot of Bioshock series gameplay, and that is *very* high praise for me.

Finished Uncharted 4 last night. Been a year stuffed of Uncharted for me, and there was a big wait for the fourth since we had to get a PS4 first. It's probably my least favorite of the franchise due to some predictable beats and story issues. I did like the treasure theme and scope of the set pieces though. The final boss fight was annoying but there have definitely been worse. Mainly, Sam sucks. Nice epilogue though. I'll be giving The Lost Legacy a go but I have great pause as two of my least favorite characters are in it.

cheesecake I love Sam, so I’m sad you didn’t like him (I’m guessing Nadine’s the other one you don’t care for?). And the game itself is my favorite of the four. Still, glad you liked these games. And I don’t know if Lost Legacy’s gonna do much for you, but it’s got it’s really enjoyable bits (the finale is a heart attack and a half).

Nadine left no impression on me but Chloe has always driven me crazy. Sam gave me bad vibes from the start and I felt like Nate kept being put in rough situations due to him. I'll keep an open mind and give Legacy a go.

I'm just doing Dark Souls again. I really need a PS4 so I can try Bloodborne or DS3. Multiplayer is so dead in Lordran.
