I remember this script sale making a splash in 2014 and everyone wondering how it was possible for a complete unknown to break in like this only to find out she was Christopher Nolan's sister-in-law I never read it but have always been meaning to. Westworld is a pretty badly written show but her only directing credit was pretty strong. I love the idea of Jackman and Ferguson together, despite the age difference (and no, I did not watch The Greatest Showman), and are probably better than whoever they would have cast in 2014. I'll keep an eye open for this. Here's hoping this will be better than Transcendence.

Haven't heard about this before, but it sounds really interesting, and 100% like something Nolan woulda directed. But it's always a great thing to see a noir-esque film actually helmed by a woman so I certainly can't complain; though I'm not a fan of Westworld I have no reason to believe that Lisa Joy can't do something great with this. Jackman and Ferguson for sure sound like a good pairing for this, so consider me in.

Was hoping for an actual trailer, but it's something I guess...

Here's a new synopsis: Definitely getting Inception vibes...

Weirdly, I missed this news when it initially got announced. I really like the concept of a "private investigator of the mind" -- sounds very Philip K. Dick, and noir is my favorite genre. I am hoping that Lisa Joy has a strong directorial vision that doesn't hew too close to Nolan's sterile, neo-Kubrickian tastes; I like my sci-fi noirs grungy. And while I'm not thrilled about Jackman normally, Rebecca Ferguson is always worth the price of admission.

Transcendence (directed by Wally Pfister and starring Johnny Depp) was the last would-be Chris Nolan movie directed by one of his acolytes/inner circle, and that didn't turn out so great. Even right down to the title (Reminisce) , I'm worried it might be more of the same.

Was hoping for an actual trailer, but it's something I guess... That dialogue alongside the images reminds me of the Inception quote. "You're waiting for a train. A train that will take you far away. You know where you hope the train will take you, but you can't know for sure. Yet it doesn't matter. Now, tell me why?"

I know you're already a big fan of Blade Runner 2049, but do you think it would have been even better if it had a grungier aesthetic like the original? I recall some people not really liking the glossier, sleeker look to it (I don't mind it). It's funny you mention how the premise of Reminiscence sounds like Philip K. Dick after I brought up Inception since I've always felt like Inception is the closest thing we have to an adaptation of Ubik. I almost wonder if Nolan passed on directing this because it felt a little too similar to his previous work. In the recent book The Nolan Variations, there's a conversation with his brother where he wonders if Tenet is him "repeating himself," so it's clearly something he's concerned about.

Considering I think 2049 is Deakins's best work, I would say that it doesn't bother me at all. I actually prefer the look of 2049 over the original film, as I find Cronenweth's work terrific but, at times, frustratingly under-lit. It works in the confines of the moral murkiness of the story, but we don't really have that in 2049, as the whole point is that K's nobility is never called into question, but his humanity is.

This is either going to be really great or a complete miss. Can’t wait to see it though, I really dug the first part of the trailer because I thought it really rang true about nostalgia being so powerful, but then the second half for me didn’t click because it seemed so generic in a way. For some reason it reminded me of that Vin Diesel movie that I’m not sure ever came out, but I kept seeing the trailer for before the pandemic where he thinks one thing about his wife or ex-love interest but is apparently in some kind of secret program.

Bloodshot. It came out and it was terrible.

Hmm, looks kinda intriguing. I hope it does well for Jackman's sake though, he has a mixed to kinda poor track record when it comes to picking these non-X-Men fantasy / sci-fi flicks, and I’m always down for an original science fiction film too.

I agree that this looks like it will either be awesome or a total misfire. The trailer does kind of dip in the latter half when it seems to be trying to sell itself as more of an action movie. Though this looks like something I could potentially love with its Blade Runner vibe. Really hope it's not another Transcendence....

Can’t wait to see it though, I really dug the first part of the trailer because I thought it really rang true about nostalgia being so powerful, but then the second half for me didn’t click because it seemed so generic in a way. For me, that feeling is mostly a result of how the trailer is edited to the rhythm of the music towards the end, and how it's synced with physical action moves. I suspect those scenes won't come across like they're in a generic action flick if they're edited and scored differently in the film itself. This feels to me more like the trailer is just trying to make the film look more "blockbustery" than it actually is... I get the sense that it will lean more into the cerebral sci-fi/neo-noir aspects. Though the one part of the trailer that kind of turned me off was what looked like a slow-motion gunfight in a bar. For anyone who's watched Westworld, are there a lot of slow-motion action scenes in that? I've only seen the first season, and I can't remember exactly what its action scenes were like...

Inception meets Minority Report meets Blade Runner 1999 with a dash of Brick.

I keep forgetting about this film. I will stream it on HBO Max this weekend for sure. Love the two leads in this (Jackman & Ferguson ) and am intrigued by the plot. Hopefully Lisa Joy delivers the goods with her directorial film debut!

Currently at 47 on MCI was looking forward to this, but these reviews aren't surprising. No real buzz for it at all, and it seemed like the Inception comparisons were going to be inescapable based on the trailer.
