As Thanos might say, this was.... inevitable.Admire Christopher Nolan for trying, but not even Nolan can defy the will of a Global Pandemic. Summer Movie Season 2020 is officially done. Might as well put that Russell Crowe Road Rage movie straight to VOD.It was a valiant effort for Nolan, but it's pretty obvious that millions of lives matter more then just releasing a single movie. Wouldn't surprise me if Tenet is moved to early 2021 at the earliest. WB remain adamant on releasing it this year but in staggered stages instead of a set date, which makes the most sense and makes me wonder why the hell they didn’t start doing this in the first place. What is ultimately going to happen is the film will probably have one of the longest theatrical runs ever because the option of giving it a short theatrical release window and then promptly releasing it on-demand is absolutely out of the question for Nolan and WB.

It honestly wouldn't make any sense to release it on VOD, because it would be a huge money-risk. I'd have to imagine they're planning a staggered international release first, but they're trying to play their cards right, and see how things play out first, especially with America and Trump's terrible response to the pandemic.

Yeah, WB can’t afford to keep playing the waiting game. Release it globally where allowed, and whenever the hell America decides it wants to get their shit together, then they can roll out domestic. That simple really. Why should everywhere else miss out because of one laughably inept country? Plus WB need to start making back this money one way or the other, and from what I’ve gathered from the cinemas that are up and running internationally, people are very much willing to go back in their droves again.

The only concern I could see WB having if it was released overseas first, is the film potentially leaking before it gets released in America, but that seems minor. If the movie's well-received, I think people will show-up to see it, leak or no leak.

If HD cam leaks are available (and they will be), the US box-office will be like 23% of what it would have been. You can put it out early overseas if there's a solid release date in America 4-6 weeks later, but some indefinite shit will bite WB in the ass big-time. Forums and twitter will be flooded with spoilers. Spoiler terrorists will make a game of it, I guarantee it.

I think you way over-estimate how many people will watch a shitty downloaded cam version over going to the theater. Ever an HD leak wouldn’t make that big of an impact to BO. Majority of movie goers aren’t torrenting. If the BO suffers it will be due to Covid concerns.

Greek cinemas removed Tenet from threir "coming soon" section but I hope it's only because there is nothing officially announced yet.

Apparently Indian theatres are opening from 1 August. Not a very smart decision since India is getting badly fucked by COVID-19 currently, but given that theatres have been closed for almost *5* months now I don't think they had much of a choice. In any case, if the 26th August international rollout is true, and the reopening pans out, then we might just get to see Tenet a month later.

I love how so many people are just automatically assuming these dates will stick. Not saying they won’t but I wouldn’t bet money on it.

Nobody says they'll definitely stick.
But seems like a given that Tenet will open overseas before USA, so, since theaters are already open in some countries, we're being optimistic!

The US is not going to be ready in a month. This will lose a ton of money.

With 25% seating capacity, apparently. May be Pvr and co. are putting pressure on the govt. coz they can afford to loose some money but the small theaters will suffer.

Who the fuck wants to wait a year? That's bullshit! Makes no sense to punish international audiences just cuz YOU Americans fucked COVID up so badly. Theaters will probably re-open in PR next week. We deserve it at the end of August. Period.

From a business perspective no, it doesn’t make sense to open this in a month. Nothing to do with what you “deserve”.

Huh. Wonder if the big chains in Ontario will be open by then. I miss going to see movies so, so much, but I don't know if I'll be attending.
