Not sure whom I'd like as the male lead though. Who’s got a Cary Grant thing going on and isn’t named Clooney? Henry Golding.

Certainly a good candidate. Would also like him seeing back on the screen finally. Bale again? Please not. He would be my least favourite choice of Nolan's usual actors. But I'd hope that Nolan may look somewhere else.

This North by Northwest meets Inception thing is really, really intriguing. I'm hoping Nolan will cast new faces, like he did with McConaughey and Chastain on Interstellar. Since it's described as a romantic thriller, I assume a woman must have a central role. The only name that comes up to my mind is Emma Stone, but mostly 'cause I want her to open the new decade starring in another most nominated film at the Oscars.

I'd be on board for an Allied reunion, tbh.

While this probably will still be a large-scale blockbuster, Nolan returning to a more overtly Hitchcockian sensibility sounds promising.

I have the feeling that this won't be a very oscar-ish project, though I certainly could be wrong. I'm with you that new faces would be nice. I could also imagine Jennifer Lawrence in this.

Jean Dujardin and Michelle Williams
I'd also really love Javier Bardem to work with Nolan.

He loved First Man so maybe Gosling? scrap my idea. Give me Gosling & bring Eva Mendes out of her hiatus

He loved First Man so maybe Gosling? As good a guess as any other, but I think that could indeed be interesting. And why not reunite him with Michelle Williams?

please for the love of god can someone else write the script this time? Nolan is great at so many things but writing isn't one of them. We've allowed him to sail on by so far by virtue of the ambitiousness and technical precision of his projects but I draw the line at romance. His dialogue has never been more than functional and often comes off as wooden, so the thought of him writing flirtatious or sexually-tense dialogue makes me queasy. He can't write a romantic story. He can't and he shouldn't try.

Yesterday's only good news and now this... But anyways. I'm sure whatever Nolan takes on, it will be a good film at least.

i don't care what it is as long as he's not writing it People complained about his reliance on exposition and he countered that with Dunkirk. Now he will do the same with Romance. He is on the path of proving his critics wrong.

I know that there is the general view that Nolan isn't good at romantic aspects. But actually so far romance has never been a huge part of his films, at least not at first glance and it didn't get much room in them. It usually is just the background for some of his stories. I agree that the "romantic" scenes in Prestige or the Batman movies were not good, but the background between DiCaprio and Cotillard worked very well for me. A rightful criticism is that his female roles were rather uninteresting so far, a point I didn't care about, because it was of no urgent need for the films, but nonetheless a valid point if it was important for you, but I definitely wouldn't suppose because of this that the Nolan's are not able to write a good female character.
