Should've postponed for a month or two. The US just recorded it's highest spike of 37k cases. Here in India 17k new cases recorded yesterday, the highest till date. Brazil is worse. Beijing's bad and so on.
The world is not ready Mr. Nolan. You should realize before this becomes a meme à la New Mutants.
I really hope they don't keep doing these incremental delays, and will instead just postpone the release indefinitely. Otherwise it's just going to become a dangling carrot...
This. They need to stop trying to appease Nolan and just convince him they’re committed to this as a big theatrical release when it seems safe and realistic to do so. These continued 2-week bumps are ridiculous.

Nolan gets a blank check from WB. He needs to take the L and move on. It is not his fault we are in the middle of a pandemic but his ego doesn't want to let go of the fact that he wants to be the first big movie post-crisis. The problem is... we are still mid-crisis.

Can't they just release it in places where COVID is under control?? Here in PR we have VERY low numbers and the "safety measures" have worked. Many theaters have already opened here...BRING IT ON!! I know we're unfortunately a slave colony of the US empire, and we always pay for America's fuck-ups, but goddamn it if we're not doing an infinitely better job of dealing with this shit. We should be rewarded...with TENET!!
Through the darkness of future past The magician longs to see One chants out, between two worlds: "Fire Walk with Me"
It's real a shame. Here in Austria cinemas are opening at July (some have opened already). So there's really no reason they couldn't show it here. I mean everybody knows that Austria is the most important film market in the world anyways.

Probably because Nolan doesn't want spoilers to leak.
I want all of you to enjoy your cake, so... enjoy.

I didn't know you lived in Austria. I was there last summer and loved every second.
Love him all you want, but either Nolan chooses to live in a secluded bubble where rules don’t matter to him, or genuinely believes that cinema is more powerful than a pandemic.

Where in Austria have you been?
We were on a European tour so it was a short stay in Innsbruck, but legitimately one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. We stayed at this inn high in the mountains -- so gorgeous and quiet (and had some of the best food I've eaten). On a stroll I took this picture -- my favorite from the trip.

I think it's easy to attribute this game of chicken with the release date to simply stubbornness and ego on Nolan's part, but I think an important thing to remember here is the film's release actually seems to have become an integral part of the theater industry's reopening plan. If WB delays until 2021, then the part of the blame will fall on them for theater chains going under. Look at how Mulan has now moved in response, and now Unhinged has moved to July 31... Tenet is the anchor here. Just saying that there are some business politics going on behind the scenes that go beyond "I want my film to be the first big movie people see in theaters again."

I know I was being too optimistic in thinking that what's happening now in a lot of states in the US wouldn't happen once everything reopened again, but before that I did think that theaters reopen albeit with restrictions in place and that Tenet could open in this summer still. So I could forgive him for that before.
Now however I definitely don't see that happening anytime soon though at least in the US, and I don't see WB opening it everywhere else and maybe only on VOD in the US. I just wish they'd postpone it indefinitely because there's just no telling when theaters in the US will be safe again, and pushing it back every few weeks just seems dumb when they know that things aren't just going to magically get better two weeks from July 31st.

Yeah, this looks absolutely typical Austrian. I like it that our country is so full of mountains, but I'm seldomly there. I'll be close to Innsbruck in July for a few days though and hopefully walk a bit through the nature.
