More of Carrie Coon is always good but casting one of the ST kids feels bleh.

Yeahhh, I like Wolfhard well enough, but casting him in this just feels super on-the-nose.
And if Coon is going to star, I guess I have to see this now. Really hoping this only does favors for her name recognition but at the same time doesn’t relegate her to doing blockbuster stuff.

Oh man... how lazy can you get? It's like a checklist of shitty rip-offs. Young quirky outsiders? CHECK! Nostalgia factors? CHECK! Podunk Midwest down despite the entire series to date taking place in NYC for no reason other than it's what that one super successful show that this one actor we have was in and is of no coincidence whatsoever? CHECK! Bill Murray voiceover to show that this isn't the MA favorite 2016 version? CHECK!
Also, you know, Super 8 is a film that already exists.

Really? Is this really what they’re going for? okay we get it, you saw stranger things too. So goddamned derivative of that show, right down to the casting. Ghostbusters is a really simple ass formula. If you can't get the original cast, hire 4 wise-ass adult dudes who can approximate the characteristics and chemistry of Peter Venkman, Egon, Ray and Winston. Set it in a big city like New York (or even London if you want to switch things up a bit), and hey presto, you are done. It's weird that they want to keep making so many fundemental changes to a franchise that was hugely successful and beloved the first time round...exactly as it was. The adage if it ain't broke, don't fix it really applies to this franchise. You don't need to do a gender reversal of the whole cast. You don't need to rip off the aesthetics of a currently popular streaming show. Just do Ghostbusters. Stick to the basics and keep it simple.

I dont understand executives they come off as not loving movies. I blame this on jason who should know better.

Between this, Stranger Things, and It, Finn Wolfhard is really carving a niche for himself.

Like to dislike ratio: 125k likes to 5.8k dislikes. This looks no better than the 2016 version.
”Misogyny was a subset of the outrage” my ass.

Oh Carrie Coon, you deserve better than this.
Jason Reitman, on the other hand, does not.

My heart weeps for Carrie Coon. This looks like such a cynical cash grab. I hate the Stranger Things effect on pop culture.

Unfortunately the new trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 looked like it borrowed a lot from the latest season of Stranger Things too. I'm guessing that the kids are supposed to be the grandkids of Egon, which could have been a way to make a nice tribute to Harold Ramis, but I agree unfortunately it looks like such a cynical cash grab that any thoughts of being a way to honor Ramis seems way down their list of priorities. Also as a tv series albeit one that still rips off of Stranger Things maybe it could have worked like on Disney or Nickelodeon or on a streaming channel, but it doesn't seem like Ghostbusters at all except in name when they set it out in the country instead of NYC, and it didn't look funny whereas the original Ghostbusters and even the second one were pretty funny and marketed as comedies.

The second Ghostbusters film is a movie that I'll defend any day. Sure it suffers from being a carbon copy of the first, but it still has that same sort of "normal guy comradery quality" that made me fall in love with the characters from the original. This new film just looks like a hopeless cash grab made by a studio desperate to have a new franchise, a director in need of a hit, and more importantly it just doesn't look very funny. Having "kids" be the stars might seem like a cute concept, but at this point it's been played out to death that it doesn't come off very exciting to me any more. In all honesty, I think this looks worse then Ghostbusters 2016, and that was a movie that I thought was merely okay.

I think you're right about the kids being Egon's grandkids. He probably married Annie Potts and that's why she's doing a cameo. But seriously, Egon ends up in Oklahoma?

What's up the with buildup in the trailer? It's only Ghostbusters, not Star Wars.

I like Carrie so I hope this helps her career. My only hope is that folks who go and see this movie will say "who's Carrie Coon?" and then they will go and discover her stellar work in "The Leftovers."

It's more of the same, but it keeps almost the same quality level as the original. That's what the best franchises generally did in the 80's (like Indiana Jones, Back To The Future, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard).

Yeah, the '84 film is probably a stronger overall product, but it ain't got Peter MacNicol or Vigo.

It's actually really ingeniously executed. I also think the special effects are even better then the first. Ghostbusters 2 is actually one of my secret comfort films. I rewatch it quite frequently, and it always brings a smile to my face.
