NOT here for the Emily Blunt snub, the general lack of You Were Never Really Here, the weird omission of First Man in Best Music and the weird omission of Black Panther in Costumes.
VERY MUCH here for the lack of Black Panther in the more significant departments, Cold War's multiple nods, the very fun Buster Scruggs nom in Costumes.

Regina King snubbed. This can't be good.

Yikes. And here I was holding out hope that BAFTA would turn this season around. Guess not. That Pawlikowski nomination is really the only inspired one, and at least McKay and Farrelly both missed out in Director here. Otherwise, really boring choices & even some vomit-inducing ones (Rockwell, BlacKkKlansman's score, and fucking Bohemian Rhapsody's cinematography? wtf). Ugh. At least You Were Never Really Here got the Best British nomination, but damn it deserved so much more.

I can't believe Davis turned out to be the big shocker of the nominations. Now I don't know who to go for in the last spot. I think I'm going to have to drop Blunt though because MPR missed a critical guild, and did badly at BAFTA which seems very bad for something so British. I guess Aparicio. She hasn't really got in anywhere, and the critics never got behind her like they did Colman and Collette, but Roma will either win BP or be the runner-up. As for Supporting Actress, I guess I'll go with Robbie. The deglam factor is a big plus, and Elizabeth is such a baity role plus King who missed again. I still don't know if King can win the Oscar. If Adams takes both SAG and BAFTA, I don't think so, or if someone else takes both SAG and BAFTA. The best thing for King is if Weisz wins BAFTA as many are predicting, and anyone besides Adams and Weisz win SAG. I think Washington will still make it into Best Actor. Hawke missed, and BlacKkKlansman was strong enough overall. Plus, maybe he missed because they really hate his dad. Supporting Actor I think will be the SAG 5 too. Elliott has his veteran status, and ASIB has hit every Guild so far. It might not win Best Picture, but it's still not going strong after the Globes. Finally, I'm so happy that Bohemian Rhapsody missed Best Film!!! That's actually a pretty solid top 5, imo. Sure I'm not a fan of Green Book, but in comparison to what could have happened a lineup that included Bohemian Rhapsody, Green Book, and Vice, it's not so bad. Plus, GB was the best out of those 3 for me.

Cold War seems more like a BAFTAs thing but holy shit if it goes full Amour since Pawliwoski is really good friends with Alfonso.
Adios Blunt

The Blunt snub is a surprise but because her film's a huge hit and because she's been campaigning hard, I'm confident she'll make it.
Coogan's nomination that I should have seen coming since he's so beloved with this award group.
I love the lack of attention in major categories for Black Panther.

finally McQueen getting some love. Phenomenal doc about a brilliant artist. The Cold War noms are my shit. Still processing the rest but boy these screenplay picks are odd.

Poor Emily Blunt ... from double SAG nods to zero BAFTA nod ... I wonder what happened there. I still think she’s solidly in fifth place now though. Viola Davis is not getting nominated and others just don’t have the buzz.
And I guess another Regina King snub means Amy Adams is winning.

This is actually... good? So far, this has been the best line-up of the televised awards. Farrelly shut-out of BD, Bohemian Rhapsody kicked out of the BP nods.
I'm shocked that King was snubbed again, I really don't believe anymore that she'll win the Oscar. When was the last time someone did it without SAG and BAFTA? And since they liked Widows, I wish they had gone for Debicki instead of Foy for that last nod. I'm guessing that Weisz will win BAFTA since they clearly adored The Favourite, and maybe she can get SAG as well? I don't know. And it's nice to read Robbie's name, now I believe she'll get that #5 spot at last.
Things aren't looking pretty for Blunt either. I mean, she got double nodded at SAG and that's still huge, but being snubbed by her own country with two box-office hits is a big blow. Hope she can recover, since I don't believe Davis will make it to the Oscars, but this might make room for someone like Collette (I'll never give up on my dreams) or Aparitzo happen.
I'm crazy for the Pawlikowski directorial mention, and I'm quite sad that neither Washington or Hawke made it to the list.

That's probably it, but it's still disappointing because Debicki has a much better role and performance than Foy

12 Nominations for The Favourite . Is it enough to make up for a lot of the lesser choices...well not really, but I'll get over it. Anyone feel like Bale might sneak this one? He's lost 3 times before, including for The Fighter, when he won pretty much everything else. I feel like when he lost for American Hustle and The Big Short, they had someone they wanted to award more, but this time perhaps not.

Rachel Weisz should win the bafta and SAG, Regina's position is very shaky now. Why would she win SAG or even Bafta?

Why would she win SAG or even Bafta? She has a shot to win BAFTA since she's British but I doubt she would take SAG. Amy Adams has that in the bag. She might not be runway as we originally thought she'd be but she's still winning since her strongest competition (King) keeps getting snubbed and her second strongest competition (Weisz) won not that long ago.

Rachel Weisz should win the bafta and SAG, Regina's position is very shaky now. BAFTA is quite likely, but SAG?? Nah, Adams has that in the bag. Plus, Weisz has already won there. It's very ironic that Adams will probably win the Oscar. Having seen both, Weisz is definitely the better performance, but it's poetic justice because when Weisz won her Oscar for a thoroughly undeserving performance, she beat a truly FANTASTIC performance by a dazzling newcomer who should have had it in the bag. Who was that newcomer?? You guessed it: AMY ADAMS!!
