this isn't surprising and it doesn't say anything about Roma's Oscar-chances apart from this category. Cuaron has been the Best Director frontrunner all season.

Cuarón winning pretty much assures that no film gains a big advantage tonight.

Cuarón winning pretty much assures that no film gains a big advantage tonight. It’s the Golden Globes, that was gonna be the case regardless.

It does though. A split makes no sense without an acting or a screenplay win. you mean like when Cuaron won for Gravity five years ago ? I'm pretty sure he means that if Cuarón wins Director again, A Star is Born needs a Screenplay or acting win to pull through and win Best Picture, which is what he's rooting for. Argo won Screenplay. 12 Years a Slave won Supporting Actress and Screenplay. Spotlight won Screenplay. Moonlight won Supporting Actor and Screenplay. His point is that A Star is Born would need more than an Original Song win to join them. I'm pretty sure Cooper's winning, though, so it's okay.

Did anyone else catch that bizarre split-second cut to Bezos as soon as Brosnahan uttered the word “Amazon”? That was one of the most ominous things I’ve ever seen.

Is it normal for American TV? The number of commercial breaks is fucking appalling. It's like every 5 fucking minutes.
