They are one of my favorite bands and a crucial one in Rock history .....but its their 2nd and 3rd records that I love not this one.

I think the first record is pretty good but overrated and here's the real blasphemous part - it's a bit overrated because of Chris Bell, his voice, his songs are kind of nothing special. To me when Bell left they got better - weirder, tougher, darker, more fascinating. It's Alex Chilton's band to me not Bell's - not by then anyway - and on Radio City and Third at least - Chilton is a dazzling figure (in fact, the best song Bell ever wrote, the solo "I Am The Cosmos" sounds more like a Chilton song).

So, with that being said, all the best songs are Chilton's on #1 Record too, and Thirteen is the best of them.
