Two weeks into the critics' awards, and A Star Is Born still hasn't won a single Best Picture prize. That's... surprising.
It's not that surprising. It's not the sort of film that would score highly with critics' bodies enough to win the big prize, and it was always going to be more of an industry player. If anything, it not winning any Best Picture prizes at this point is probably a good sign for it, as it tempers any sort of backlash it might get the way La La Land did (although I still expect it to lose at the final hurdle).
It's less of a contender than Shoplifters or Cold War, but their 2018 Cannes wins aren't mentioned...those would make more sense than one from 19 months ago.
I hadn't gotten around to doing the 2018 Cannes prizes yet. They'll be in the next update. I added Ramsay and Phoenix along with Boston's rewards for You Were Never Really Here as kind of an afterthought.
