First Reformed is still my favorite of the year too - the only film I've seen so far that even approached greatness. I mean JangoB had to mention Bresson and Bergman to categorize it as less than fresh and sure I'd agree with that, but I don't have to name films nearly that great to put the overrated "best films" of 2018 in their place too. Sticks with you like no other 2018 film (seen it twice, it improves), a great script (we don't get those at all), by a guy in his 70s who has been lost for a long time now (is somebody going to use the word comeback for Schrader or not?) and by far the performance of Hawke's life. If we're going to write off First Reformed because it's not Winter Light, I may as well just surf the internet for porn all day. I'll be back in a bit...........going to ..........um........to tend to my garden, um, yes, that's it, garden........ I'm not writing off "First Reformed" because it's not "Winter Light" (and I'm not writing it off at all - it's a good film), on the contrary - my problem is that it's a bit too much like "Winter Light". And especially like "Diary of a Country Priest", down to the stomach problems the main character goes through. I'm fine with filmmakers biting small pieces out of films they love but I think that here Schrader chewed off a bit too many pieces.

I do love that Daveed Diggs nod. Everyone should see Blindspotting just for his performance.

Many great surprises (Josh Hamilton YAY) but also some major snubs (Where is Melissa McCarthy?!) ... I could now proclaim what I infamously done 2006 and say she is OUT... but I won't. Sorry .

I'm surprised that Thunder Road was clearly eligible yet wasn't more popular.

Eh, I don't get the love for Eighth Grade. Also, it's criminal that Thomasin McKenzie was frauded into suporrting when anyone who watched two seconds of her movie knows she's the sole lead. And Leave No Trace was nominated for a bunch of things, she sure would've made the Lead Actress line-up.

Richard E. Grant gave a really good speech. That's the upset I would like to see at the Oscars.
Toni Collette didn't look too happy during Glenn Close's speech.

It’s a shame he wasn’t able to be there but Ethan Hawke’s win made me so happy!

The If Beale Street Could Talk/Eighth Grade/Leave No Trace/You Were Never Really Here/First Reformed song and dance number was funnier than anything the Oscars has done in the last decade.
