Fascinating album, that I often go back to - to me its a step down from their debut album but it's one of the last Rock records of a unified audience and before Rock then collapsed into itself and stopped representing a give and take culture and turned inward (Radiohead etc) which can make for good music (possibly) but also terrible Rock and Roll (definitely).

To me this album is actually represented by its album cover more than any song - 2 dudes, walking into each other............ been out all night (maybe?), about to greet each other (maybe?) about to get a drink (maybe?) ..........a classic image for a dying culture, the moment where the music audience was about to splinter into nothing much at all.

Its best songs were the most famous "singles", the best single was Don't Look Back In Anger ........

One of the albums that changed my life. I'll always have a place in my heart for Don't Look Back In Anger, so that gets my vote, but Hello, Morning Glory and Champagne Supernova are phenomenal songs too.

I'm not the biggest Oasis fan. I don't like the sledgehammer production on so much of their stuff. It just sounds like a bunch of noise with Liam's whiny, nasally voice over the top of it. Particularly on an album like this where they try to "big" with keyboards and strings, not the appropriate approach. I've heard this credited as being the album that kicked off the "loudness war" and I don't have trouble believing that.

That said, Don't Look Back in Anger is one of the killer hooks of all time. The only of their songs I really ever bother to re-listen to deliberately (don't have much of a choice with Wonderwall since it's still everywhere)

Shame I missed this one. A very good album for the most part, but Champagne Supernova towers over all. In fact, in many ways, Champagne Supernova towers over about 90% of the songs I've ever heard in my life.

Also, point of odour, Wonderwall sucks.
