Why am I not surprised it came out of Florida?
If this isn’t the perfect example of the kind of terrible people that Trump can inspire and attract, of how his messages can be misconstrued in the worst ways possible, I’m not really sure what is, and with hard evidence of that fact out now, only an idiot would be so naive to think that the hatred he’s spewing isn’t having a negative influence on people.
And I don’t want this to be misconstrued, I do not nor should anyone place blanket blame on the Republican Party or the GOP. I may not agree with or like them, but I refuse to believe they’d stoop so low as to do something so awful. Treat this as it is, the repulsive actions of a vile and extremist individual.
However, now there is no excuse for them and for Trump to be so blind to what their constant attacks and blame games can instill. Trump especially, because of his constant bullying and cynicism spewed from behind his podium, who even if we naively give the benefit of the doubt he had no comprehension what his words can do, was at least aware enough what people could do in their anger and hate. When he’s making remarks that people in his day would drag guys out on a stretcher, reaching for any excuse to vindicate White Supremacists and sexual assault, and openly championing a man for body-slamming a reporter, should he really be surprised anymore that someone went the extra mile?
And I predicted this very thing back on IMDb and the election recounts, that if things didn’t go his way, his voters would reciprocate violently. Literally anyone could see that from the other side of the planet, and would want to diffuse that tension, unless you’ve literally lived under a rock like Trump seems to have.
And whatever he thinks of the Democrats, whatever fear and violence he and his voting base think they try to provoke, this is beyond any of that. And yet even now, when he should be civil and brags about how nice he’s being, he still can’t help but throw those attacks against the Democrats and the media. He’s now seen what negativity he can stir, and how violent his extremist fans can be, he just doesn’t care so long as it doesn’t personally effect him. It’s not like him to accept responsibility anyway, because he views himself as infallible. He said so himself when he remarked he’s never on the losing side, and that any losses in the Blue Wave wouldn’t be his fault. And unless the bottom comes crumbling down beneath him, and he’s forced to confront the consequences of what he does, he has no reason to change. He can provoke, rant, deny all he wants, because no one’s making any attempt to hold him accountable.
That’s what provocation of violence looks like. THAT... is what fearmongering looks like.

It's fucked up and everything, but c'mon... literally every ideology has inspired some psycho to commit violence.

It's fucked up and everything, but c'mon... literally every ideology has inspired some psycho to commit violence. Which is why he shouldn’t be so careless given his power. He treats it with the nonchalance of a rock star, but doesn’t realize - or severely underestimates - just how influential he can be in his position. There are people who will take him at face value, hinge themselves on every single word he says. The presidency is supposed to be our nation’s highest moral compass, the guiding and unifying light in terrible times, and he’s treating it as if it’s just another day in his privately owned business. And maybe he didn’t see that, maybe we give him the benefit of the doubt that this came out of left field. But now that he knows it, he no longer has any excuse to be so naive and turn a blind eye to it. The problem is, however, that he’s shown repeatedly his refusal to own up to and grow from his mistakes, so what reason do we have to think he’ll suddenly do it now?

I think the editor writer needs to learn what epidemic means. It means widespread dickhead.
