I didn’t know this, but apparently Pitt’s character is on the spectrum, and then I was no longer excited for it. I wonder how many stereotypes they’ll be playing into?good mentality

I really don't understand what you guys are talking about. Autistic people exist. Why should there not be an autistic character in a movie? What on earth are you on about?

I can't speak for them, but it can be concerning because a lot of cinematic portrayals of autism have come away treating it as either a joke or a complete misunderstanding (i.e. Mercury Rising, The Predator). Very rarely has a major film handled autistic characters in a way that isn't pitying them or treating them as complete social outcasts who have no real competency in society. All that said, I have faith in James Gray. I don't think he would've written that as a character trait unless he meant to explore it in depth.

It's like saying that it's a huge bummer that any Hollywood movie coming out that has an Asian character in it is worrisome and bad because it could end up playing into stereotypes. Why are people getting borderline dismissive of something they have not seen? It's James Gray for pete's sake.

As long as Brad Pitt isn't playing a Canadian again, I'll be fine.

But if this is handled well I've got absolutely no problem with it and to be fair this wasn't an issue with Gray's films so far. And I was certainly not dismissive. I just pointed at a potential problem. I'm totally looking forward to this film, it's one of my most anticipated of the year.

I’m starting to get Tulip Fever vibes here. Hope not though.

With Disney’s massive rescheduling, this is now due to come out directly after the fall festivals, on September 20.

I'd like to be optimistic and think that this release date is actually good because of the moving up of the Oscar ceremony, but realistically, I guess maybe they'll get a few nominations each at most.

I see one place reporting it as August 20th and one as September 20th. Neither of which are great release dates in terms of the studio's confidence but the September one is obviously the better of the two.

The source that said August 20 must've been a mistake, as that's a Tuesday and isn't directly preceded by any major festivals so it wouldn't make sense as a release date.

Ah yes, that makes more sense. Thanks broski.

Seems like a weird time to release it, but it's like 3:00 AM here and I'm used to trailers coming out when most people are awake here.

hmmmm it's good to finally be seeing footage but I don't know what to think of this yet. Looks very ambitious but there were some janky VFX in there that hopefully get cleared up. Pitt looks great as always but the plot looks a lot more Interstellar-y than I expected, just less visually impressive. Still, Gray is a wonderful writer so I'm gonna trust him and hope for the best.

I wouldn't read much into the trailer being generic. Remember how generic and awful the trailers for Arrival were? I think it could be the case of the movie being a bit strange and the studio wanting to hide it at least in the first trailer.
Also, that shot of the orange sunset with blurred sun... What a gorgeous throwback to Apocalypse Now.
